It works with an AC power adapter and a battery backup that requires 3 AAA batteries (sold separately). The dual-buzzer alarm also includes an 8 to 9-minute snooze control. I've had this clock for almost four years and I love it. The 8" numbers make it really easy to read from 100' away. It's been trouble-free and it's nice to not have to squint to try to read a clock from a long ways away.
