Q: Can you adjust the handlebar height?

submitted by Kathy - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi Kathy! Most of our models comes with one of two different types of stems. A threadless stem, which can be adjusted forward and backwards, and a quill stem, which can be adjusted up and down. This specific model has a threadless stem so it can not be adjusted up and down to adjust the height.

  • A: Hi Kathy, An adjustable stem allows the handlebar to be adjusted to fit the rider. Thanks!

Q: Description indicates bike has mechanical disc brakes, but details indicate linear brakes. Can you please clarify and correct the error? Thank you!

submitted by Chicky - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi Chicky, This bike has linear pull breaks. The copy is being updated now. Thanks!

submitted bySchwinn - 3 years ago
  • A: The brakes on this bike are linear pull brakes on the front and back wheel. Thank you.

Q: There is a 7+ lb. weight difference between the two bicycle colors. Is this an error in description or is this because the bikes are actually rated for different size passengers?

submitted by Heidi - 4 years ago
  • A: The assembled weight of both bikes is about 34 lbs. The shipping weight is about 42 lbs for both. The rider weight is up to 250 lbs. Thanks.

submitted bySchwinnCustomerSupport - 4 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: Oh, yes, looks like there's a typo in the details tab of the purple-colored version of this bike. Weight is listed as 41.9 lbs. instead of the correct 34 lbs., which the gray one is listed as.

Q: What size bike would a 5'2" woman get?

submitted by DMo - 6 years ago
  • A: Hi there, I just saw this. I am a 5'1.75" woman with short legs and I know your struggle. I just picked this bicycle up at my local target after my old bike got stolen :(. Anyway, with the seat at minimum height the bike fits me just fine, so it's probably fine for other ~5'2" women. At fancier bike shops we could get a smaller frame, but for cheap Target bikes we're stuck with trying the different 28" women's and seeing what fits. Sadly, I'm yet to find a "men's" bike that I can ride due to my shortness.

    submitted byMad360 - 5 years ago
  • A: Hi DMo - Our bicycles fit most adults. Everyone has a different level of comfort and style. If size is a concern, I suggest swinging by the bike rack on your next shopping trip to Target and trying some of our bikes out for size.

I bought a Schwimmer hybrid 2 yrs ago and after 1 ride I got a flat. filled with air, got another flat. I noticed quickly that there was a gap from the tire to the metal wall expelling air. I do not exceed a weight limit it's clearly an issue with the way it was built. I deciding to give this model a try becusse really it's all I can afford for hybrids and don't want to assemble on my own and target assembles if you buy in store. after one ride, another flat. filled the tire with air for 10 minutes and nothing. also had same issue with gear shifting. awful. don't even know what I'm supposed to do! so upset. I need this for transportation and the wheel is flat! it won't fill up and ot doesn't need a patch.

The bike is comfortable, but useless. The front derailleur will not shift. I thought it was just poor assembly, but even a professional bike shop can not get it to shift properly.

I'm 5"2 - Bike way to BIG

4 out of 5 stars
HushTan - 2 years ago
I read the reviews of other shorter people and seen this bike on sale and was soooo excited to pick it up! But, it was way too big. The bike felt great, sturdy, Loved the handlebars. The seat. The blue color is super pretty. This is an awesome bike. My husband is 6"3 and he fit the bike much better. Still searching for my perfect bike... Also* Target has a chart in store which tells the correct wheel/bike size for your height (very helpful) This bike is an 28" - I need a 24/26" bike at 5"2 - I haven't purchased a bike since childhood. Some may know this.... But, I really had no clue. If your taller - Buy this bike! If your funsize... I recommend trying it out in person. Target NEEDS more bike selections - 1 star deducted I've gone to multiple stores now... zero to three bikes max. More inventory please.

Great Entry MTB

James - 2 years ago
Easy to assemble but had to adjust front gears. Going up to gear 2 was an issue but not surprise bc gears are good but low end. Shifting on the front gears is harder to engage than back gears but this is alot better than the twist gear shift. Ride is good and maneuvering is average. A slightly longer handle bar might help. Overall the bike is great for beginner weekend riders at this price range.

Poorly Manufactured

1 out of 5 stars
kkb - 2 years ago
If I could give this zero stars, I would. I am so disappointed by this purchase. When I read the reviews, I thought the issues stem from how Target assembled the bike. This is not the case, this is the worse Schwinn bike. I am surprised that they put their name on it. The gears are not configured properly. Therefore, you cannot shift both sides to the same gear. The seat constantly moves down. I am not able to complete a ride without having to get off the bike to move the seat up. All and all, I am most disappointed by my inability to shift gears properly. I would love to get a refund; however, I just spent so much money to get a new seat and the handle bars raised. Man, what a waste of money!! Truly truly disappointed!!

Everything about this purchase went seamlessly. one thing I see with previous reviews that were sub par is that the purchasers are not looking into getting the bike being tuned. When ever you buy a new bike its always recommended you have your bike tuned by a professional or a knowledgable cyclist. its just the standard. anything mechanical doesn't always come perfect and true. A good tune ranges from 30 to 60 dollars.

AVOID THIS BIKE!

1 out of 5 stars
MO - 2 years ago
DO NOT BUY THIS BIKE!! Like other buyers, I had trouble with the gear range. Gear range 1 works fine. Gear Range 2 doesn't work at all! When you switch it to 2nd, it makes a noise like the chain is about to fall off! You can switch it into 3rd and then back to 2nd and it works, but who wants to do that every time they ride!? Hoping this was just a problem with the particular bike I got, I went to Target to check out the other 2 (same) bikes they had on display. Same problem!! Schwinn, how do you sell a bike that doesn't work in the most common gear!? Who does that!? Please send me a bike where the gears work because I love everything else about this bike and would buy it again if this problem was fixed. Make this right!
1 reply from SchwinnCustomerSupport team - 1 year ago
Hello MO! We are so sorry to hear this has happened! Our rear derailleur system does have to have out-of-the-box alignment (it can become misaligned during shipping) in order for it to function properly and also every month or every other month after that as dictated in the owner's manual. If the maintenance is not done on the system, it will cause the shifter to malfunction or possibly "jump" gears. For more assistance, please give our Consumer Care Center a call at 800-626-2811 Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 6:00 pm CST. For faster service, please have your receipt, as well as your model number and date code from our Pacific Cycle sticker on the frame. Thank you for reaching out!

Problem shifting gears

1 out of 5 stars
Initially it worked fine when riding on gear 1 but when shifted to gear 2, the chain is half way between gear 1 and gear 2 and when gear is shifted to gear 3, it is fine. I tried several times shifting from gear 1 to gear 2 (front gear) and it never worked. All other gears seem to be fine. I did not expect this from new bike and I am returning for this reason. A big disappointment.

I haven’t had it for very long but I honestly love this bike! I’m picky about bikes and have built my own in the past, but this is quality. The bouncy, shockproof tires tricked me into thinking not enough air but it’s a cool feature. It feels strong but not overly heavy. Ordered online and paid local bike shop $40 to assemble based off of reviews from others mentioning Target assembly issues. The seat looks pretty OK, but I had them install a gel one because I plan to distance ride.

great price for a nice bike BUT the assembly is terrible. I bought this bike a few months ago, already assembled in Target. my gears keep slipping. when is sit down the seat moves. I've tried to tighten and adjust things but there always seems to be a problem. I'm disappointed because Schwinn is known for great bikes. I honestly feel it's best to have it assembled by a professional/bike store. Target really shouldn't allow these to be sold already assembled if they arent safe to ride.

Decent bike, but terrible assembly by Target is giving Schwinn a bad name

Mel - 2 years ago
I'm a taller girl and I do most of my riding on paths so this looked like the perfect budget bike for me. It was nice for a while, just the suspension in the seat and handles takes a few rides to get used to. However only a few weeks into it I noticed some problems. 1. The gears are messed up. The right/front shifter works but I couldn't even use the left/rear. 2. There's clicks, bangs, and grinding sounds that change depending on which gear I'm in. 3. The rear tire tube went flat after only a month. This could just be bad luck sure, but in all my life I never had a tire pop that fast. 4. The bolts on the back wheel were completely stuck. I have never seen bolts screwed on so unbelievably tight, what the heck did Target use? After trying a bunch of different tools, WD40, and multiple people I FINALLY had to use a Bolt-Grip to get those horrible bolts off. They were completely stripped so I had to replace them. This bike wasn't even 2 months old at the time and I already had to invest a new tube and bolts. Other than all that (LOL) I like the bike. Technically it works, but I'm thinking about taking it to a bike shop so they can adjust all the screw ups. I would NOT recommend buying a pre-assembled bike from Target. I'm sorry to those employees, but they just don't know what they're doing. And Schwinn.. yes they make cheaper bikes, but still they should have some kind of standard. They should not let places like Target assemble these bikes incorrectly, it's giving them a bad name.

Bike is great. Whoever put it together at Valencia target it awful. I took it to a bike shop and had to pay $75 for them to reassemble as the breaks were backwards and many screws and the front tire were loose, and the gears didn’t shift correctly. I’d recommend the bike but know you’ll have to be able to assemble yourself or take somewhere

One Problem After Another

Kristin - 3 years ago, Verified purchaser
Words cannot express just how frustrated I am right now. I am steaming with anger. Originally, I purchased the Schwinn Radiant for myself and the Schwinn Trailway for my husband. My car is so tiny that I opted to have the bikes sent to my home address. When it arrived, the handle bar on the Radiant was placed the wrong way. We did everything in our power to unscrew the handlebar to fix the issue but it would not budge. No one could loosen the screws. It seemed as though it had been firmly secured by the factory. So, I sent it back. With the refund, I purchased this Trailway. I followed the instructions on how to put the bike together (this time a little more experienced since I have now put together 2 bikes-- my husband's Trailway and my previous Radiant). Everything at first glance looked great. Eager to ride, I took the bike outside. As I sat down on the bike, I could feel it sink. That's when I noticed that the rubber on the back wheel was completely off the rim. My husband thought that it was probably just flat and needed air. He managed to put the tire back on the rim and fill it with air. However, within minutes (and that's being generous) the wheel was already completely deflated-- again. There must be a hole in the wheel. After dishing $300 (including tax) for a NEW bike, do I now have to pay for a new tire? What is going on at the manufacturing site? I am beyond disappointed and feel like I am in a lose-lose situation. What am I suppose to do now? Order yet ANOTHER one? Do I have any guarantee that this third bike won't have any issues? How long am I suppose to engage in this dance of buy-build-return? How incredibly frustrating. Pictures show the handle bar of the Radiant positioned wrongly and the pictures of the Trailway's flat tire-- after my husband adjusted the tire on the rim and put air in it. If you're a potential buyer, I don't know what to tell you. You can risk it and perhaps get a perfectly nice bike (like my husband's)-- but just know it's a $300 risk and not a $300 guarantee, unfortunately.

Hi Kristin – It sounds like you have every right to be frustrated with your purchases. From the attached photos, it appears the screw was stripped which prevented the handlebars from being adjusted on the Radiant. While at this time, we’re not going to be able to assist with the returned Radiant, we can get you riding with the Trailway. Since the tube isn’t staying inflated, it sounds like the tube needs to be replaced. This is easily done and the parts can be on the way the same day the order is placed. There would be no extra cost to you to have these sent. You can also ensure the problem is with the tube only by running a cotton ball around the inside edge of the wheel and seeing if it snags. We’re available to take your call and get your bike rolling along side your husband Monday- Friday 8am-5pm CST at 800-626-2811. Thanks, Jennifer
