Scotts Elite 72 in. W Broadcast Push Spreader For Fertilizer/Ice Melt/Seed 30 lb

I like the Scott's fertilizer products a lot, and have been using rotary spreaders for 20 years, but this spreader fell short. I wash my spreader after each application to stay rust free. But after one season, the edge guard mechanism (just a wire with a hook pulling on a cheap plastic gear) started jamming, wouldn't completely disengage, resulting in super uneven application. I was finally getting my poorly sodded lawn back in shape, but the spreader made a total mess of my yard this year. Now I have stripes and splotches throughout the yard. I would not pay for the "edge guard" upgrade. Buy something cheaper that just works.

I have used this spreader about 4 times now and have to say it is not the Worlds best spreader". On 2/4 uses, the edgeguard cable came loose so that did not work. I also had problems one side of the hopper chute not opening. It is very frustrating to get a consistent distribution of product with this spreader. So, this isn't a completely negative review, I do like the bigger tires.

Appears to work fine until you put product in it and then apparently the shoots do not open therefore no product comes out. Absolutely worthless only used a handful of times but over a year old Scottis apparently will not do anything. Crazy a company like Scott’s makes such a crappy product and won’t even stand behind it.. especially since it’s so expensive and they’re supposed top line. Smh . Do not purchase you will regret it

Worst spreader ever. Very simply, the first time I used it the pin which spins and moves the product in the hopper, came off and got lost. And there doesn't seem to be anyone with an answer or solution to getting another similar pin. I tried a cotter pin and a hitch pin, but both comprised the distribution of product. Help, please!

Junk spreader, used very little and now it doesn’t open when fertilizer is in the hopper. Empty the drop doors open but as soon as you add Scott’s fertilizer they stick closed 😡

I bought my Scott’s Elite Spreader in the spring of 2024.Spreader settings are not accurate using Scotts products specifications. Spreader does not disperse evenly leaving deep green strips next to pale green strips. I need to come back a week or so later and fertilize the pale strips. My lawn is always unevenly green.

The first one didn’t work properly right out of the box. It has 2 chutes that dispenses product and one of the chutes wouldn’t open properly so product only came out of one side. Scott’s sent me a replacement and it worked ok for 8 uses before one of chutes wasn’t opening as far as it should allowing more product to come out of one side giving an uneven distribution. Not good when fertilizing. The springs are too weak. The next time I used it, I extended the edge guard and when trying to retract it, the lever was hard to move and started clicking when moving it. The lever closed but the edge guard did not retract and is now frozen in the open position. The clicking was plastic gears stripping. I contacted Scott’s who said, sorry, we only replace it once and then if there’s an issue with the replacement, you’re on your own. Aside from it not being reliable, the dual dispensers are a gimmick and don’t work well. One side is always dispensing more product than the other side. And lastly, good luck finding the proper settings for spreading your products. Nobody has settings listed for this spreader and it dispenses at a different rate than all other Scott’s spreaders so you can’t use those settings. It’s all trial and error.

I bought this Elite spreader last year and have used it several times since then. It’s well built and easy to maneuver. Overall I am happy that Scotts built this product for residential and as well as commercial use. Definitely recommended.

I bought this over the past weekend. On the first use using Scotts Bonus S fertilizer, the ports at the bottom of the spreader where the fertilizer drops out of the bin holding the fertilizer, clogged with poorly processed pink globs of fertilizer. They look like pink stones but are big enough to clog the port which restricts the amount of fertilizer that is supposed to be spread. My previous Scotts spreader had one large port that never clogged with these pieces of fertilizer which are in virtually every bag. To me, this looks like a design defect. Instead of four small ports at the bottom, there should be two large ports that are far less likely to clog. I will be returning the spreader for a refund.

Purchased and assembled this Elite rotary spreader without issue and everything seems to be in good working order. The problem I have is that I have not been able to find the spreader settings for the Scotts moss control products including MossEx and Moss Control Granules. They are not listed on the enclosed instruction material or on any of the other settings tables I have been able to find.

I used the spreader once so far and it does a nice job. What really stinks about this product is none of the Scotts products have the spread rate for this spreader. I bought a Scotts spreader because I use Scotts product and I don't have to guess the spread rate. Now, I have to call before I apply. What makes it worst; the easiest solution is just put the rate online; somehow the customer care people have it.

I recently bought the Elite spreader, but after the very first time using it with Scotts Turf Builder fertilizer, when I was done I noticed the pin on the agitator was missing. I searched my yard, but cannot find the pin. How do I get a new one? I splurged on this spreader and thought it worked fine. Just disappointed to have the pin fail immediately.

I used it 4 times and it broke. It is difficult to get setting if you don't use a Scott product. It replaced my old Scotts spreader that I had for 10 years. Just buy the old one.

Scott’s elite spreader has stopped spreading. It just drops the product out of the bottom and does t broadcast anymore after less than 10 uses

What a waste - burnt my yard out this year using a Scotts Spreader and Scotts product.

I have only had the opportunity to use the spreader one time on my lawn, but it was extremely easy to put together, set, and begin the spreading process. I found myself having to stop, go back, and go over an area or two here or there where the rotary spreader was jammed up a bit, but overall it was an easy process with a well-functioning machine.

Where are the spreader settings. Most basic thing is impossible to find.

Yeah, this spreader is elite all right, elitley bad. The spread rate is very inconsistent and the release plates frequently get stuck, clogged or often fail to open consistently. The build quality of the cable system could be better and the rotator pins seem insufficient for the job. Your can’t slap a 4-inch elastic band to a piece of plastic backing, attache it to a poor quality spreader then call it Elite. A regretful purchase. You can do better.

Poor results, uneven spreading, the bin feeds are badly placed and the control cable leads to inaccurate amounts of product. One of my spinners broke after a year. Not a quality product. Had a 3000 that worked much better.

The edge guard is very poorly designed and cheaply made. Expensive spreader that doesn't function as intended. Don't waste your money. Disappointed.
