Used only once and after a sit, not working. Replaced batteries, nope. Opened up this tool that had maybe 15 minutes use and found inferior sealing attempts for the 2 pigtail. First of all the female end of the connector is pointed upward with no seal. If at one time there was a seal that's still clearly a problem. Pins were rusted and one was broken off into the connector. This tool is not prepared to be outside, and that's where most vendors store them. Positive note-this is a very easy fix unless the rust has already began. So it will have to be done at the factory before the vendors store them outside

The Edge Guard is the problem

Used once quit working. Same problem as everyone else. FYI: The problem is the Edge Guard. It comes loose and stops the blades from turning. Had to take the bottom off and remove it. Now it works fine. Not sure what the Edge Guard is for but it’s the reason these stop working and should be redesigned.

This spreader worked one time and ever since then I I have replaced multiple batteries and attempted to replace AA coils with no luck. The wiring system for this spreader is disappointing. I love Scotts brand but very frustrated with this spreader. Do not buy.

Had it for 2 yrs now. Spread grass seed, fertilizer, milorganite and it still works fine. I clean it after every use. Haven't had an issue with it other than when I bought cheap batteries. No issues with quality batteries.

This is the largest piece of junk I have EVER purchased!!!!! Save your money, it's a complete rip off. It only works if there is no seed in it. I put 1 pound of wildflower seeds and it wouldn't run...with fresh batteries. I got so angry and frustrated, I threw it against my shed. I will NEVER buy another Scotts product again.

I purchased it new, used it for 5 min and it had no power, stalled out, etc. Replaced batteries with the same result. I took it apart. While apart the unit runs strong. As soon as I screw it together again it stalls out. I narrowed it down to an alignment issue between the sprocket on the hopper auger and the sprocket on the spreader. I could not rectify the alignment issue so I screwed it together so that just the spreader works now. The auger would be nice but it binds up the motor.

I am giving the Wizz a rating of 3 only because I fixed it, and should have had to. From the day I purchased it, it refused to work for more than 10 seconds. Replaced batteries 3 or 4 times. No luck. Finally after taking the bottom off, I found the problem to be a poor connection with the white wire. It has a small plug in connector, and the wire is loose in it, and it fails to make contact. I had to glue mine in for it to work. If you have a Scotts Wizz and you are having trouble, it is probably this wire.

I purchased my Scotts Wizz in the summer of 2023 and used it 2 times. I removed the batteries for winter and when I attempted to use it this season it would not work. I tried 2 sets of new batteries but it still will not run. I am not happy with the unit.

We apologize for the problem that you experienced with your Scotts Wizz Spreader. Please go through the troubleshooting steps below: 1. Can you engage the trigger at all or is it locked? Make sure the lock on top of handle is in unlocked (forward) position. 2. If you have not used the Scotts Wizz Spreader in a while, try manually spinning the rotary plate (green plate that spins to throw out product) then engage the trigger to see if the spreader will turn on. If the rotary plate will not turn at all then check if there is something jamming it or the agitator which is the small spinning part inside the hopper. 3. There is a felt washer located underneath the agitator in the hopper that should be soft. If it has dried out, we recommend spraying it with a lubricating spray like WD40. While spraying spin the agitator by hand to loosen it. 4. Check the Rotor Plate position. There should be a gap between the orange edgeguard part that is directly under the hopper and the top of the cylinder portion of the green rotor plate. The bottom of the cylinder portion should be resting on the black washer like piece. Use a screwdriver to push the rotor plate down and make sure the center cylinder portion of rotor plate rests on the bottom of the spreader. Just lay the screwdriver across the rotor plate and push down. 5. Make sure the orange edgeguard is not dislocated and can rotate freely. We used the Scott wiz spreader for the first time. I found that the contents in the spreader does not move down into the hooper without help. It would be nice if Scott’s provided a cleaning video. As this spreader is electronic, I am concerned about cleaning the spreader.

I bought this spreader a year ago. Took out the batteries at the end of the season, now this season it won't work. I went and bought brand new lithium batteries and I tried it with no product in the hopper and thought I pulled the trigger and it seemed to work. As soon as I put product in the hopper, it no longer works. This is a very disappointing product for the price.

Had problems with the Malorganite fertilizer beads collecting beneath the rotary spreader plate preventing spreading of the Scotts Wizz Spreader. The design of the spreader plate needs to increase the diameter of the plate to prevent bead from passing between the housing wall and collecting underneath the spreader plate. In addition, the gap between the bottom of the spreader plate needs to have ejector wings that can discharge any beads that can collect between the spreader plate and the housing base. Upon disassembly I noticed that the lead to the batteries were pinched for they were not in the correct position as install assembly when the base was fastened in place. However that was not a root cause of the problem. Over time cold flow of the wire insulation under pressure could have resulted in a short discharging the batteries. Also noted the the feature that limits the dispersion pattern allow the Malorganite beads to collect between the selector wheel and the housing increasing the area where the beads can bypass the spreader wheel and collect beneath it prevent proper broadcasting of the beads.

I've had this Wizz Spreader for several years now. From the very beginning, it has not been that powerful. And over the years it has become even less so. I'm thinking the motor is weak because it runs on AA batteries. They need to make a more powerful model that runs on a lithium-ion rechargeable battery with a more powerful motor. The other problem I have with it is if I don't hold the spreader in the proper position, the seeds stop feeding into the hopper. They just stay on the sides unless I shake it or point it down. I came to the website today looking for a hand-crank-operated spreader, but they are out of stock. I still have my very old (30+ years?) walk-behind spreader I can use. But it only covers about a 24-inch wide area. I was looking for a wider-coverage spreader for my 1-acre yard. Otherwise, I'll be getting a lot of exercise! I have had other Scotts products that I have been very pleased with. Unfortunately, this is not one of them.
