They are not flushable nor should they be composted. Most wipes are disposed of via regular trash in a landfill. No disinfectant or cleaning wipe can authentically claim the wipe is biodegradable because even biodegradable wipes do not biodegrade if they are disposed of in a landfill. Because used wipes are disposed of in landfills, making biodegradation claims are false and misleading. Seventh Generation prioritizes chlorine-free whitening processes over biodegradability in wipes for this reason. We hope that someday the conditions of land filling will be conducive to biodegradation or that someone will develop a material that biodegrades under current landfill conditions.
