A: We don’t use coconut-derived ingredients in most of our sun care products, but we do use Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil in our SPF 15 Tanning Oil and Browning Lotion, as well as in many of our Hair Care products.
If you have a coconut allergy, we always recommend patch-testing before using or consulting a medical professional, just to be safe.

Caused burn & photodermatitis
Gave me rash, hives and blisters. Itchy first then burning and painful. Went to urgent care and allergist and narrowed it down to sunscreen photodermatitis. Allergist said she had one other patient recently that used the same product and had the same reactions. Just because companies use FDA approved ingredients doesn’t mean it’s safe. There’re apparently many documented cases like mine. I’m going to report to FDA hopefully there’ll be enough victims documented for corporations to be more responsible and make safer products. BEWARE! Sun Bum smells like MARIJUANA!
Do not buy this product as my son opened his car door today and noted the strong odor of marijuana. It turns out it was Sun Bum. If stopped by police, they would believe this odor was actually marijuana—with its consequences of searching your vehicle and etc.

Spray Malfunction
I have purchased Sun Bum in the past and really liked their products. I bought a new can of the sunscreen spray before going to the lake on July 4. We got to the lake and I tried to spray on the sunscreen. It did not come out as a spray (like what I’ve used before) but poured down the sides of the can making a huge mess. I thought maybe it was because it was new so I tried it several more times during the day. Each time another mess down the sides of the can. I ended up wiping it off the sides of the can and rubbing it on my body. The good news is that I didn’t get a sunburn, but the bad news is I have a can that makes a huge mess and does not work as intended.

Overall, the product does what it is supposed to do. I prefer other brands over this one (for the spray on sunscreen). This is far more sticky than other brands. Pros: Easy application, works well for a good period of time, I’ve never gotten a sunburn with this on, nice smell Cons: Sticky, more expensive than other brands of equal quality I would definitely use this again.
