Super Mario Chess Collector's Edition Board Game: 2 Player Classic Strategy with Figures

Major quality control issue. The whole point of chess is to capture the king. They mislabeled the king as 2 queens on the red side making it difficult to play at all. Really disappointed in this major quality control issue especially since it was $40.

Bought it last night, Mario’s hat broke off taking it out of the box today and doesn’t connect back on. For this price, i shouldn’t have to glue anything the day after buying. We swapped for a Mario figure we already owned.

Good quality, fun twist on the traditional set. 2 nephews loved it. Appropriate for children who can play chess.

First off, Luigi as the Queen to Mario is hilarious! Almost everyone that visits my office liked it. Some mentioned that it would be a good gift for family/friends. The quality is really nice. But keep in mind there were some art changes notably Mario/Luigi's noses are long for some reason. But that design grew on me. Also, when play chess alot, I haven't had anyone wanting to play so idk how easy it will be to remember the pieces during a match

We bought this for our 5 year old grandson, who already knows how to play chess - fortunately. Because, as another reviewer stated the characters and their assigned positions don’t make sense. Luigi is designated a “Queen” and Princess Peach is designated a Bishop. Our grandson loves Mario and Luigi, but does not associate Luigi with the role of the all-powerful Chess Queen. Each character is made of plastic molded “permanently” on top of a plastic base and the position title is embossed on the base. Consequently, Luigi’s base says Queen. To resolve this, we very carefully cut the base off both characters with a very sharp knife. Then applied LocTite Super Glue and re-attached each base to the desired character. The glue set fast and permanently. Now we’re ready to play! Our grandson will also enjoy playing with all the characters even when he’s done playing chess!

Odd chess set - ok if you’re a Super Mario lover but takes a little adjusting to remember which characters are each chess piece. Would not purchase again - too costly!

This Mario theme chess set is so cute and fun. Already played with it twice and really enjoyed it! HOWEVER, what bothers me is the choice of characters used for the positions. Luigi is the queen and Princess Peach is a bishop, which feels odd (would be better reversed). The Goombas are the rooks, but it would make more sense to make them as the pawns since they don't move fast. The Green Shells are the pawns, but it would make more sense to make them the rooks since they can move far/fast. How I would recommend changing the character positions to: Queen - Princess Peach Bishop - Luigi Pawns - Goombas Rooks - Green shells Wish there was a way to submit the recommendation to the game creators but there doesn't seem to be a way.

It’s a fun spin on traditional chess for Super Mario fans. My son had it years ago, but it got lost during a move. We enjoyed playing it together on Christmas morning.

Well made and good quality.

Very fun! Pieces are sturdy and labeled with which position they play. My boys love just playing with the pieces without the game board.
