Description

You remember that one Thanksgiving. Your oven's convection setting had been acting up, but you figured it was still safe to use it for your 22 pound bird. And miraculously, everything seemed fine. The oven read 425°, same as ever. Then you pulled out the turkey after 4 hours to find it broiled to a dry, inedible stuffing tomb. Grandma cried for a while. Never let this happen again with the Taylor 3506T-21 oven thermometer. What this thermometer reads is law. Accurate from 100°F to 600°F and 50°C to 300°C, you can hang your trust on Taylor's 150 year legacy of precision thermometry. The NSF listed 3506T-21 is forged of stainless steel, and is equally suited to hang on a rack or stand in your oven.

Q: Can I used it in a commercial electric warming cabinet, like one you see in snack bars?

Q: Mechanical thermometers seem to lag a great deal behind the oven's thermometer. The oven says 400, my current thermometer says 325. How does one reconcile this?

submitted by LarryB - 2 years ago
  • A: Thanks for reaching out, here are some helpful hints! Oven thermometers should be placed near the back of the oven away from convection fans for best results. If you are concerned about the reading, try moving the thermometer to different locations around the oven to see if the fluctuations in temperature are consistent. It is normal for ovens to not maintain their calibration and our Taylor oven thermometer is a great way to determine if there is a problem. There are many, many variables at play here. 1. Ovens cannot be recalibrated by the consumer so if the oven is old or the user is setting it to a function like roast, bake, convection etc that will all affect the temperatures. 2. Built-in oven thermometer sensors are typically located in the back of the oven where it won't be affected by opening doors 3. Where is the consumer placing the Taylor oven thermometer? If near the front with a lot of door opening happening during cooking, it will never come to temp. 4. The whole point of using a secondary oven thermometer is to find out IF your oven is having heating issues so that you can resolve them. Typically people buy an oven thermometer because they find foods are over or underbaking frequently. The supplemental piece should be used to "test" the temp in different places to determine the extent of the issue. Once it's confirmed, that perhaps the oven is running 25 degrees too hot then they know to either adjust the temperature down in the settings or reduce the time the food is in the oven. The only person who can really verify if an oven is working correctly is a licensed repair technician. Hope this helps! Please reach out with any additional questions. Thanks!

Q: I have a very old oven, from the 40s and gas based. Is this safe to use in an oven like this or only modern designed ovens?

submitted by antiqueovens - 2 years ago
  • A: It will work for your oven as long as: --the internal temperature of the oven does not exceed 600 Degrees Fahrenheit --the thermometer is not exposed to direct flame If you need more info, please let us know. Thanks!

Q: Can this be used for a charcoal grill as well?

submitted by Erica - 3 years ago
  • A: It is accurate from 100°F to 600°F and 50°C to 300°C. Hope that helps answer your question!

Q: Have one similar first I hung on rack and it fell off into bottom of oven, then I stood it in oven and it fell again. My question is there a way to secure it or keep it from falling in oven? The one I own isn't this brand. Thank you!

submitted by Bull - 4 years ago
  • A: The Taylor oven/grill thermometer hangs or stands with no issues. We are uncertain which design you have but feel free to try the Taylor one if that works better for you!

Q: How do you use this? do you just stick it in the oven with the food?

submitted by Drewgie - 4 years ago
  • A: Well, basically yes. It's for measuring your oven temperature, not your food temperature. So just stand it or hang it on one of the racks where you can see it through the oven window, and you'll know if your oven is actually at the right temperature.

I’ve used this on my grill and my oven. I primarily use it in my oven now to ensure the temperature is what I want it to be. It has saved me from burning some baked goods. If you’re not sure if you oven temperature is accurate, this is a must own. It’s cheap but will keep you from burning the food you worked so hard on. It also has a hand hook to the top, so you can hang it on the oven racks.

I was able to prove my kid's stove couldn't keep heat. With known family recipes, I noticed them taking about 10-15 min. longer. The electric stove would beep at 350 when preheated but this temp gauge showed it was only 330 inside. I would put the heat higher and barely make it to 350 on cold days. I would check baked goods and just opening the oven door dropped the temp dramatically. In short, the oven proved defective and this item helped.

Testing range oven

Good thermometer - 11 months ago, Verified purchaser
I took 4 times to get an average of temperature and the thermometer works great and gave me the current temperature after the oven was ready. I tested the range oven at 350 F , and was 200 at the beginning , 347 after 10 minutes , 350 after 20 minutes, 350 after 30 minutes the average was Ok, the oven is working well.

I used this to replace an old one in my oven that I thought would be the same. This one has bigger numbers on a white background which makes it easier to read. Works great.

Life saving little guy. Well, it my life, but certainly more than one dessert. We bought it because our convection oven was having issues and we have kept it ever since because it is nice to know, like really know, the temperature of the oven. The thermometer stands well by itself or you can hang it. Easy to clean.

I liked that you can hang it but standing it up in oven, I was afraid of it falling over or falling into the cracks and getting into the actual flames (can you tell this is my first oven thermometer?) Overall it helps me a lot bc I moved into a new place and the ovens numbers were all rubbed off so I didn't know the actual temp I was baking anything in. This little gadget was super helpful!

Either this thermometer or the oven is way off.

REB - 2 years ago
Nicely constructed but accuracy is highly questionable: After pre-heating to 350 degrees, the thermometer only registered about 160 degrees. Even after cooking at 350 degrees, the thermometer didn't even reach 200 degrees.
