Description

Learn to code with Huey, your color-sensing robot pal. This kit offers kids a hands-on, screen-free introduction to the world of robotics and coding. With a built-in color sensor, Huey navigates around maps that you create using 81 puzzle-shaped tiles. Huey recognizes the colors of the 32 coding discs, which tell it whether to turn right, turn left, or continue straight. Huey makes fun sounds and movements as it travels around the map, revving its engine as it gets started, and doing a little dance when it reaches home. Huey can be muted for quiet play. Build one of the 18 maps included in the full-color, 16-page challenge book and figure out where to place the coding discs to help Huey find its way home. Make sure to watch out for the red ghosts! If you hit one, you’ll have to debug your code and try again. There are four levels of challenges, which are appropriate for kids ages 5 and up. The size of the map grows with the difficulty of the challenge. Beginner maps use nine map tiles, while advanced ones use all 81 tiles! You can also create your own maps and then challenge your friends to solve them. The possibilities are virtually infinite! Learn about how Huey’s color sensor works in the full-color, 4-page instruction manual. A bonus online challenge book includes more than 40 additional challenges — 60 challenges in all! Can you solve them all? Huey does not require a computer, tablet, or smartphone to operate.

It doesn’t run. Over 2 hours and got it moving max 3x. Changed batteries, reset, google searched issues, reached out to tech support — nothing work and no response back yet. We used similar products at the science center in the past and they worked great. But not Huey… my girls were so excited only to have it be a complete waste.

My daughter really enjoys this robot. She loves creating random paths just to see how she can get it to move. This is really getting her interested in STEM and how we get technology to work, I love this toy and what it has helped her imagination and perspective with.

This toy was interesting. I liked the idea of using a toy to teach simple educational concepts. It was a little complicated to use & figure out but l liked the overall way it teaches a child to learn.

I received this item for free foe my honest opinion. At first glance, looks pretty use to setup. Comes with a challenge book to setup some easy track lines. You can build up to hard as well. There are qr codes to scan to receive more challenges.

Huey is adorable! He is such a cute little robot and is fun to play with. The tiles could be made stronger so they stay together better but my daughter enjoys playing with it nonetheless. She has spent lots of time building different paths and routes for Huey to go on.

I really wanted to love this game. I have a 10 y.o. son & an 8 y.o daughter and I thought it'd be a great project for both kids. First, taking out all the cardboard pieces was a pain and some of the cardboard ripped as it's pretty flimsy. It also doesn't connect well and bows a bit. We tried a really simple track to start and we could not get Huey to recognize the start board. After a while we got it working, but oh man, the kids lost interest and my husband and I were at our wits end. We put it away and tried again about a week later. After 17 minutes (!!) of trying, we couldn't get Huey to recognize the start board. I think this needs some reworking because I do not see how anyone would enjoy/have the patience for this.

Good for older kids

This coding robot kit is cute and well constructed. The directions are straight forward and it does what it’s supposed to. I don’t know much about coding, so I can’t really speak to whether or not this does a good job establishing foundational concepts. Basically you are figuring out what direction to give the robot to achieve the goal of reaching the end of the puzzle. My kids were so-so interested in it. They had fun for a bit, but then moved on and didn’t really circle back. They’re on the younger side for the toy, whose age range is 5+. Out of the 42 challenges it comes with, only 4 are rated for five year olds. The vast majority, 30 out of the 42, are rated very difficult and for ages 8 and up. So I would say if you have an older child, there’s probably more for them to do with this particular toy. Also note, there end up being A LOT of bits to keep track of, just as a heads up, if like me you struggle with keeping things like that contained. Overall, I think it’s a solid concept, well executed, just better for older kids than the box indicates.

Cool idea but pieces are flimsy

This coding robot is cute. My 9 year old daughter was so excited at first. But then getting all the pieces out and building a pattern she became too frustrated because the pieces don’t stay together. We tried it on different things (floor, coffee table and dining room table) and the pieces won’t stay together. Great idea but product needs to be more sturdy. Since the first couple of days my daughter doesn’t want to do it anymore.

Huey is a line tracking color sensing robot from Thames and Kosmos. I really like the fact that there are 4 levels of challenges which meams my child can continue to learn and grow. This is a really fun way for children to learn coding.

My son is into robots and coding. He loves trying to figure out how to make things work. This robot has been fun for him; he likes manipulating the map to make the robot go different places. Overall, it's fun, but my son gets frustrated when the cards that make up the map don’t work the way they’re supposed to and they come apart. Definitely would work better if the cards were made out of better material.

Love love love this “coding” robot. My just-turned-5yo (this week!) had a little difficulty comprehending it but with some assistance is now fitting in pieces and paths with no issue. It helps that Huey is adorable too. There are LOTS of pieces so it’ll definitely be a challenge to keep organized but it’s still awesome and works their little brains while still having fun.

The Huey Robot was a lot of fun for my six year old! Constructing the mazes and puzzles for Huey to navigate was easy and a fun challenge for my son with the instruction booklet. My main complaint is that the cardboard tiles are very thin and don't stay in place, so you end up spending a lot of time just trying to keep the maze together as Huey moves over the pieces. It makes the experience frustrating. However, the robot is very cute and a very fun introduction to coding. If the tiles were thicker and better constructed, this would be a music better experience!

This is a fun and engaging toy, and my little boy enjoys it. I wish the track held up better after being built, it seems to get moved out of place if bonked at all. I think it’s a fun toy but I don’t think it will be something he gets hours of enjoyment from.

What a fun toy! My 7 and 9 year old got the hang of this right away and liked creating little paths for the robot. When it worked, they loved it. It took a minute to figure out to let the robot sit. The only drawback was the second time we got it out to play, the robot wouldn’t work! The kids and I tried everything but it wouldn’t turn on. My daughters got super frustrated. We tried everything and thought it was broken already. But then a few minutes later it suddenly worked again. SO it’s super fun but beware it may be a little glitchy.
