Fun fact, the plates on the back of a stegosaurus are not attached to their spines. The big, bony-looking plates were imbedded in the dinosaur's thick skin and were covered with a network of small veins. Some scientists think they were used as "solar panels." A very cool way to keep warm!

First and foremost the solar panel is not functional, but when hooked to a 9v battery the motor works. Secondly the pieces are an absolute nightmare to detach from the frame they come in. In mine and my 8yo opinion this robot is absolutely not worth the money or time put into building.

My daughter (9) gave up within minutes on building it. It took my husband hours and tools. It’s not the stem project we were hoping for at all.

This is a really awesome kit for a kid who is interested in mechanics and how things work, but the solar panel I received in my kit simply did not generate any power. The motor worked fine when hooked up to a battery, but when I connected the leads to the panel, it just didn’t do anything.

Once they robot was built, it never held a charge. Our 8-year-old who received this as a Christmas gift was understandable, upset.

The pieces are TINY! Some are smaller than the top of a thumb tack. The instructions are only faded pictures that are nearly impossible to understand. Once I got it assembled, it didn't even work; at all. Very disappointing

Could not get power. Had to hold right next to light bulb and then it would only try to move. Very disappointing. Can not find site to ask for just new solar board so I will return to store.

Difficult to seperate the pieces

My 12 year old (who does complicated Lego projects solo) got frustrated and couldn’t get the 3D-printed pieces separated. My husband tried to help and was also unsuccessful — things broke as he tried to disconnect them. Overall, it was a fail — everyone gave up and the broken pieces went in the trash.

Bought this for my nephew. He was a little too young for it, as we didn’t look at the age first. I figured he would be okay with it because he does older Lego sets on his own. But this one has so many pieces tiny pieces he lost interest. I helped him with it and it was very difficult. It also took awhile to twist the pieces off the plastic part (my husband ended up clipping them all of with pliers, but it created the problem of not remembering the name of each piece). Although it was difficult, it was a neat activity and I think it would be great for the appropriate age.

Don't work and looks completely different from advertised. My 6 year old son was so disappointed , we spent hours setting it up making sure all are in place, he wanted to take it to school for his project I thought it would be perfect so I bought it. Good thing about it is that it's cheap

I bought this on a whim for my 10 year old son, who loves to build things, and I couldn’t be happier! It is the perfect level of complexity for his age, especially for kids with an interest in stem and building things. I love that he could build multiple versions, one after the other — taking them apart and putting a new one together was part of the fun for him! For the money, it got him hours of fun over a few weeks, since it wasn’t just a ‘build it once and done kind of toy’. It does require the use of small wire cutters, like the kind used for jewelry, so younger kids may need help with that. The only flaw I would say, is that after taking it apart, and putting it together so many times, some of the more commonly used parts do become a little stressed, and by the time he was building the last few models, a few of them did break. For the price though and the amount of use he got out of it, we are not really too upset by it, and did not expect it to be a forever kind of toy — he just now goes back and builds the models that don’t require those parts, ha ha. Overall, great toy for the price and recommended for any kid who loves to build.

A gazillion teeny fiddly pieces, a frustrated 8 year old, and fingertips worn raw from filing down jagged edges and prying apart little bits of plastic. SKIP THIS ONE.

My 8 year old son, who can build just about anything on his own was able to assemble one of the robot models but was extremely disappointed to find that the parts did not work correctly and the solar panel was defective. He spent a lot of time pushing out the tiny pieces from the plastic and trying to get it to fit together, only to find it doesn’t work. Don’t waste your money!

I was wary because of the negative reviews, but my 7 year old son and I have been having a blast with his new robot! It was simple enough for us to build and it works perfectly in the sunlight. I think the key is building the motor and testing it first before building the whole robot

The idea of this is fantastic; this is HARD to put together even as an adult. The pieces would break apart or fall off when trying to put a new piece on. What is nice is that the kit comes with great organization to have smaller bags for all the rest of the pieces not being used. We haven't taken it outside yet to try to see it move (cloudy day of course) but this is definitely keeping my soon to be 8yr old busy while I work from home. The key is to just really try to make sure pieces stay put. But gosh darn it, its tough so beware.

While is has a ton of tiny parts and pieces, this kit even provides a way to keep all the parts organized. Instructions are fairly simple although I did help through the entire building process. Impressed with how the motor & solar panel are one assembly and easily switch from one design to the next. We built two the first day (one at a time) and both worked perfectly. Only 11 more to go! 😂
