Looks and feels "cheap"
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I don't feel like it's as strong as other orbs as far as touching and the reaction it gives off. It also said it is sound and voice-activated and we tried everything from low volume to screaming with zero reaction from the orb. My 9-year-old still thought it was fun, but only for a short period of time. It was still neat to try out with her.

She is almost nine years old and enjoys watching it. She turns it on at night and keeps her entertained while she reads books in bed. It was easy to get it to work and very well made.

Awesome cool light, would be a great gift for a kiddo. I gave this to my son and he thinks it’s just the best thing ever!

Hands on learning via the small Tesla coil inside, 12v power cord that allows this to also function as a lamp of sorts, and different user settings for reaction to touch or sound. This is a miniature version of the giant plasma orbs found in so many science museums. My kids are fascinated by this orb. Just remember that manufacturer’s instructions recommend no prolonged contact and no contact on the org surface with damp/wet skin. Very pleased and would absolutely recommend as a birthday gift for just about any kiddo.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Discovery Plasma Orb is an interactive light with electric waves that follows touch or voice. It responds to physical contact with a touch of a fingertip, speaking, or even to music playing. It's so enjoyable to watch the colorful pink and purple strands of light gather around my finger, or simply jump around on their own. This is definitely not a toy. It's STEM science equipment for older children and adults. I remember having one in junior high science class at school. It teaches physics and chemistry. It's fun to learn about plasma, noble gases, and electric currents with this delightfully fascinating plasma orb. The plasma orb comes with a manual that thoroughly explains all of the safety concerns in great detail, as well as a power adapter. I display my Discovery Plasma Orb on a shelf near a speaker and enjoy watching it dance and respond to the music.

It plugs up into the wall and with a little switch you can turn it on. She loves turning off the lights and touching it. I will say that the globe is really fragile so you have to be careful with it. All in all this has been a great addition to any science lovers collection.

Fun for kids!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I remember having one of these when I was younger so I was excited to show my kids. They have both really enjoyed playing with it. The sound sensor is a nice feature so that the waves move to sounds in addition to when you put your hand or finger on it.. The only issue is that they fight over who gets to have it in their room so I will probably end up buying another one!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First of all, I LOVE Discovery products! They are always well made, educational and fun for kids! This Plasma Orb is no exception! Plug it in with the enclosed 12V power adapter and its on! No charging necessary. Immediately a blue and pink light emits. There is also an option for it to only react to sound, your voice, music etc. Place your hand on the orb and the light gets brighter wherever you touch it. Move your finger around and the bright light follows you! My kids were fascinated by this and the oldest has it on at night in his room! I would definitely highly recommend this product!
