The Games Gods Play (Deluxe Limited Edition) - by Abigail Owen (Hardcover)

Target tried to charge me for the deluxe edition but only brought out the normal hardcover version, which I immediately advised was not the same thing and to cancel the order. Buyer beware, you’re not getting what’s advertised.

What arrived in the mail was not the deluxe special edition pictured. It was the plain white edges version.

This review is for Target shipping and the physical book that Target is selling. I ordered the Deluxe Edition with the sprayed edges. I received my book and it was the regular edition, not the special edition.

This review is about the physical item only. Like my title says, I ordered the Deluxe Limited Edition and received a plain, unsprayed copy instead. Target refunded me and said I didn't need to return to the copy I got, but I'm super disappointed because the spredges version is sold out everywhere and practically impossible to find now. It's misleading to advertise something for sale that you don't actually have and dishonest to then send something else in its place when a customer places an order. This is Onyx Storm all over again. I was going to rate it 1 star only, since I'm stuck with a copy of a book I won't read (I only ever buy specific editions of books that I actually want to pick up and read. Most plain books do not hold that appeal for me), but it came in good condition (even though it was the wrong edition), so that (coupled with the refund) warrants at least 2 stars. That being said, would I recommend this? No, simply because you won't get what you paid for.

I ordered the deluxe version and was sent the basic and it's never I stock anymore so very disappointed

The dust jacket was damaged but decided to keep the book since is no longer being printed. I also did drive up and I had no issues with drive up.

One of my fav books of 2024! It reads fast and easy like a YA novel but does have some NA spice. Had my attention from page one. Didn’t want to put it down. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Got this book in person to make sure I got the special edition. Worth the $15, and can’t wait for the next one. Such a good book.

Ordered this for my girlfriend for Christmas. Obviously not the limited edition version as pictured on the Target website. Not going to lie, kinda disappointed.

Greek gods that choose mortal champions every century to compete in labors in order to choose the next King or Queen of the Gods is the concept I didn't know I needed in my life. Lyra, a member of the Order (a band of thieves) since she was a very little girl gets caught near Zeus's temple by none other than Hades and is chosen as his champion for the Games. (Which is also the first time Hades has chosen to participate in the crucible.) Each god and goddess has their own champion and all of the characters are so well written with quirks and depth. Lyra is a contradiction in that she deeply cares for others, even her competitors, though she doesn't expect the same in return. I love her sass and the way she isn't a bit afraid of Hades when EVERYONE else is. Hades is exactly what I pictured he'd be: 🔥 hot and hot headed, but with a surprising side that is only for a select few. The way their relationship between God and champion morphs into something else is so organic and I loved going on the journey with them. This story is like a runaway train I couldn't get off of until I finished it. The adrenaline I felt when reading each one of the labors was real. And the pacing of the story was just enough that I was able to catch my breath just to have it taken away again for the next labor. The glimpses of the underworld were top tier and I loved meeting Cerberus (my new fave book dog) and Charon. What I wasn't expecting was the way the story ended and the hole in my life until the next book in the series comes out. I will definitely be giving this one a reread to see what theories I can come up with until then.
