Description

"A feel-good book guaranteed to lift your spirits."—The Washington Post

#1 New York Times bestseller | Winner of the Goodreads Choice Award for Fiction | A Good Morning America Book Club Pick!

A dazzling novel about all the choices that go into a life well lived, from the internationally bestselling author of Reasons to Stay Alive and How To Stop Time.

Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better?

In The Midnight Library, Matt Haig's enchanting novel, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision. Faced with the possibility of changing her life for a new one, following a different career, undoing old breakups, realizing her dreams of becoming a glaciologist; she must search within herself as she travels through the Midnight Library to decide what is truly fulfilling in life, and what makes it worth living in the first place.

Left a bit disappointed

Gonna be completely honest with this— I was left feeling a bit disappointed and am unsure of what the hype was all about. It had very Mitch Albom-ish vibes ( “the five people you meet in heaven”). It was a super easy read and cute message, but felt very surface level.

A great read

This book had me deep in my thoughts. I cried when Mrs. Elm, well… you’ll find out or might already know. This is such a great read and I made so many notes. Definitely recommend.

Philosophy of life and the physicis of staying where you belong

It’s you struggle sticking with one story you might struggle here but the book is so worth getting through! Tons of life lessons and takes on philosophy of life and physics of other dimensions. Closes out nicely at the end also while I love!

A bit boring

I think the concept of the book is good, but it didn’t really go anywhere. I think maybe for those who have experienced mental health struggles it’s probably a great and meaningful read. Just not for me.

A must buy!!!!

This book is life changing in so many ways. It’s definitely a must read. I can see possible reasons why some people might not like it as much as I do. But as for me someone who has thought about my past and things I wish I could of done or change. I definitely could relate to Nora in this book. I hope eventually they will come up with a good movie soon.

Great read

This book had me in tears at the end. Very touching with a great message. Makes you look at life differently. There is never a perfect life but it is what you make it. 10/10 would recommend.

The Midnight Library

I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I first read the book premise. The first chapter had me not sure if I wanted to complete the book as it was very depressing and all hope was lost. But as I got deeper and deeper into the book I really loved the lessons and discussions about “it’s not what you look at, it’s what you see” and how that really hit home. For those who say this book was bad, I don’t think they were open enough to grasp the meaning or the lesson. Our lives are what we make them and just because we aren’t where we thought we would be or where we wanted to be, doesn’t mean we will never get there. It doesn’t mean we are stuck. Everyone needs to read this book wither you suffer from depression or anxiety or not. Everyone is struggling with something wither you are being honest with yourself or not. Really looking forward to reading more from this author

Creative and Engaging

I loved the idea behind this story. I loved the character development and fresh ideas. It was definitely a story of redemption and forgiveness but mostly the forgiveness of one's self.

Missed the mark

My Book Club chose this for the monthly read. There was so much potential in this storyline, but it missed the mark. It was very redundant and barely held my attention. I found myself wanting to just close the book and not finish, but I’m no quitter. I trudged on, skipping pages that were the same ole same ole and celebrated when I finally finished! Perhaps my expectations were too high? If you deciding between 2 book choices, skip this one.

Potential

I’ve had this book on my reading list for a while and finally decided to grab it. I think it’s a pretty easy read, I went through it in less than a day. I just feel like there was so much more potential with the storyline. It was just a good book, I wouldn’t really say it was great.
