About the Book

"Mackenzie Dienes seems to have it all--a beautiful home, close friends and a successful career as an elite winemaker with the family winery. There's just one problem--it's not her family, it's her husband's. In fact, everything in her life is tied to him--his mother is the closest thing to a mom that she's ever had, their home is on the family compound, his sister is her best friend. So when she and her husband admit their marriage is over, her pain goes beyond heartbreak. She's on the brink of losing everything. Her job, her home, her friends and, worst of all, her family. Staying is an option. She can continue to work at the winery, be friends with her mother-in-law, hug her nieces and nephews--but as an employee, nothing more. Or she can surrender every piece of her heart in order to build a legacy of her own. If she can dare to let go of the life she thought she wanted, she might discover something even more beautiful waiting for her beneath a painted moon"--

Anyone who has gone through a breakup can relate to Mackenzie’s heartache!! As she realizes her marriage is over she also realizes she is losing the only family she had left in this world. Thankfully two of her sister in laws supported her. Her other two and her mother in law were just mean! I’m glad she left them! The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was how her husband/ex-husband changed so much. He became a very mean and uncaring person. Which can happen in real life I just wasn’t expecting it in the book. But I love how Mackenzie grows throughout the book and takes charge of her own life and happiness. And builds her own, new, supportive family. As always Susan Malery helps you forget about your own troubles for a time and let’s you get lost in someone else’s world for a bit.

I loved this book! I am a fan of Susan Mallery and usually like all her books but this one goes Tom the top of my list. It’s the story of Mackenzie Diennes and how one conversation triggers waves of changes in her life and the family she has lived with all her married life. It will make you laugh and cry and feel so many emotions. You’ll cheer for MacKenzie and sympathize for what is happening to her. Get this book and I really don’t think you’ll regret it.

A nice story. Not one of my favorite Susan Mallery books, but a nice story. I felt that the end of the book was rushed. I was really disappointed because after reading the beginning and the middle of the book I would have liked to spend some time with Mackenzie and Bruno while they built their life together. Now having said that, I loved, loved, loved the characters and their stories. Mackenzie was a great strong female lead, but my favorite was Four. Her outlook on life and the world was fun to read about.

Susan Mallery's new book, The Vineyard at Painted Moon is amazing! It made me feel all the feels. The book is great in print and really awesome narrated by Tanya Eby on Audible! It's a fun read that's hard to put down. With all of the ups and downs of family life, running a family business, loss and love. Will Mackenzie listen to her heart or will get logic win? Pick up this fantastic read and see for yourself.

This book is again another great book I love the dis functional family and how Mackenzie is the heart of the family. I wanted to smack three of the family members. It is hard to see that “you don’t know what you have unlit it is gone” Bruno is amazing. I worried what would happen in the first dance. What were his feelings. Was he really a good guy? Stephanie shocked me. I thought.... well I thought her story would end differently. My friend stayed up till 2am. I think I did go to bed but it was read fast. Thank you for a great book

I always look forward to starting a new book by Susan Mallory. The way she creates her characters make you feel like you know someone like them, or want to be friends with them. Her characters have so many layers to them. This book is no different. I love how her main characters always learn something new about themselves, something others often always knew. She does a wonderful job of bringing in characters from other books, too. It is always a surprise when you recognize someone from another story. Once again, I couldn't but the book down, and I look forward to her next novel.

The Vineyard at Painted Moon by Susan Mallery

Veteran author Susan Mallery, the queen of romance, delivers an enticing new novel titled The Vineyard at Painted Moon. Mallery is a master at writing wonderful women's fiction with a side of romance. There are plenty of characters to get to know, adding a touch of drama mixed in with a complicated family dynamic. Being centered within the winemaking industry, you don't have to be a wine lover to enjoy this book and cherish the happily ever after. I just loved Mackenzie's journey and celebrate Susan for yet again sharing her talent of story-telling with us.

Mackenzie Dienes had it all, until she didn't. A dynamic story about love lost and found, friendship and family. The relationships between the characters are wonderful and brought me to tears a few times. The descriptions of the vineyards and surrounding compound make you feel as if you can see exactly where they are. Strong women dominate this book and battle it out to see exactly who comes out on top. You won't be sorry if you pick up this book. Be prepared to not get much done because you won't be able to put it down. I loved every page!

Once again, Susan Mallery has written a book that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's about a woman who works at a winery and is married to the son of the owner and one of his sisters is her best friend. When they decide to get divorced, she has to decide what to do with her life. All of the characters are very relatable and the story depicts the muddy waters of family dynamics very truthfully. There were even times when I wanted to slap a few of the characters. I liked how the circumstances forced some of the characters to find themselves and truly figure out how to move forward in their new circumstance. If you've read most of Ms. Mallery's books, you'll be delighted to see how she also managed to tie it in with another of her series of books.

A KEEPER

This book is going on the "keeper" shelf. I would love to keep more books than I do but space just doesn't allow it. There are times though that a book just touches you somewhere inside. This was one of those books. Every single character felt like someone that I might know. They just felt real. This is a story about a woman that has no one except her husband's family and what happens when they divorce. The mother is a hateful person and didn't mind at all when things stopped going her way. I'm so glad that several of the sisters remained close with the ex wife. The ex husband and how he ended up did bother me. I expected a little craziness but he ended up being a class A poop. Was so happy to be reading Bruno's story and see him get his happy ending.

I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down. Unfortunately I can see people really being treated like Mackenzie. Families get messy especially when there’s a divorce. Mackenzie did a great job of pulling herself together. Susan Mallery’s twist was exactly what I was hoping for. I highly recommend this book.

I Didn't Want it to End

I didn't want this book to end. The people in it are so real that I felt like I knew them. Throughout the book Mackenzie displays bravery and wisdom even when her mother-in-law's reaction to her decisions is far from expected. I liked the support that Rhys gave to Mackenzie as her life changed.

A great book to read by the fire

The Vineyard at Painted Moon by Susan Mallery has Mackenzie Dienes living and working at Bel Après. She has been married to Rhys Barcellona for the last sixteen years. Her family is his family since she lost her parents when she was a child and her grandfather right after she graduated from high school. The one thing that she has wanted is to own a piece of the winery, but the proves to be elusive. The matriarch of the Barcellona clan, Barbara holds tight to the reins. She controls all aspects of the winery, and she is determined it will only belong to those with Barcellona DNA. At a special event at the tenth annual Solstice Party, Mackenzie realizes that her life is lacking. Evidently, Rhys feels the same way because he asks for a divorce. Mackenzie must make some important decisions regarding her future. She could stay at Bel Après as the winemaker or she strike out on her own. What happens when something unexpected throws a wrench in Mackenzie’s plans? I thought The Vineyard at Painted Moon was a good escape novel. I needed a break, and this book was just what I needed. It is well-written with developed characters and it moves at a steady pace. While the story focuses on Mackenzie, we also get to see how Barbara’s other children are doing, especially Stephanie Barcellona. Stephanie is not happy with her job and she wants a change. She is not sure, though, that she has the courage to do it. The author captured the dynamics of a family and a family run business. This is an emotional novel as Mackenzie goes through the various phases after Rhys asks for a divorce. I thought it was realistic (as someone who has gone through a divorce). There is plenty of family drama in this engaging tale along with some good life lessons. The author presented the information on winemaking in an easy-to-understand manner. I found it fascinating all that goes into making wine (who knew). There is some repetition of details along with foul language and intimate situations (not explicit). The Vineyard at Painted Moon is a great book to read while relaxing in front of a fire with a glass of wine.

Fabulous women's fiction

5 out of 5 stars
Perriknows - 4 years ago
I loved this book. There are so many interesting people to meet! Barbara, the matriarch who needs to always be in control to the detriment of her children and ultimately herself. Rhys the son in the family, who married Mackenzie too young and becomes a friend rather than a husband, then resents the change in the relationship. Stephanie, Lori, and Catherine aka Four, three daughters who want to please their mother, but when they try to dance to her tune, really can't, and deal with their mother's irritation with them in very different ways. Mackenzie, the daughter-in-law. The prize. The pearl of great price. The one who has made the matriarch's dream a reality. The viticulturist who babies the grapes and then turns the juice into exquisite wine. A sought after vintner. A hard worker who loves the vines more than she loves some people. Everything is fabulous, a fairytale, until Mackenzie and Rhys realize they're not lovers any longer, friends maybe, and both looking to change their situation. After living in the family compound for her whole married life, Mckenzie will be giving up her family if she moves. She only wants one thing...a part of the winery her wines have elevated to top of the line status. When it becomes clear that won't happen, Mackenzie has to make some tough decisions. Not only for herself, but for others. A fabulous book by a masterful writer. I highly recommend!

Even though I’ve purchased many of Susan Mallery’s books, this is the first book I’ve read of hers. I have a lot of catching up to do because I absolutely loved Mackenzie’s story. If anyone is debating reading this book, STOP! Grab this book and you’ll see why I fell in love with these wonderful characters. Sure, there’s a witch to really despise, but for the most part, you will be happily flipping the pages to see what happens next. As soon as times permits, I’ll definitely be reading more books from this author. I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley and Harlequin and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Everyone wants to belong somewhere, some place, and Mackenzie Dienes is no different. She finds a home and family with her husband and his family. Her talents as a winemaker make her valuable to the family. But when her marriage falls apart, she knows that everything will change. It's a difficult decision, stay and just be an employee or go and lose everything. Mackenzie has a lot of decisions to make and none will be easy. However, she will find out just how strong she really is. Once I got into this book, it was hard to put it down. Another literary hit by Susan Mallery!
