Book Synopsis
A propulsive and uncommonly wise novel about one unexpected wedding guest and the surprising people who help us start anew.
It's a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she's actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn't here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she's dreamt of coming for years--she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she's here without him. Meanwhile, the bride has accounted for every detail and every possible disaster the weekend might yield except for, well, Phoebe--which makes it that much more surprising when the women can't stop confiding in each other. In turns uproariously, absurdly funny and devastatingly tender, Alison Espach's The Wedding People is a look at the winding paths we can take to places we never imagined--and the chance encounters it sometimes takes to reroute us.Review Quotes
"The Wedding People is my very favorite kind of novel--hilarious and witty with enormous heart and characters I fell in love with. I was delighted to be at this wedding, in the middle of the drama and gossip, watching the entanglements of friendships old and new. I haven't stopped talking about this book since I finished it, and I won't stop until I've made everyone I know read it...so read it! Now! You can thank me later."

"Alison Espach! How does she do it? I mean, really--how? The Wedding People is so utterly, ringingly true it feels less like fiction than like a field guide to personhood. It's so funny and romantic that I sometimes laughed out loud and sometimes got actual goosebumps. I tore through it like I didn't have a disordered deficit of attention. It's a perfect novel. I loved it."

I went into this one completely blind, & you should too! So I'm going to keep it brief on details. I thought this was such a quirky, beautifully written, touching, & fun story! It wasn't at all what I expected. I was a little nervous in the beginning that this wasn't going to be something I could get into, but I ended up really liking it. The characters are relatable, the banter & conversation is perfect & hilarious at times. (The vintage car was literally laughing out loud picturing all the banter between everyone). I felt inspired & it was such a good reminder that even though life may throw a wrench in your plans sometimes, you just need to sit back, roll with the punches, believe in chance encounters & trust that timing can truly be everything. I loved how Phoebe stopped living her life for the comfort of other people, & started living for herself. Choosing to be unapologetically honest, upfront, & choosing to stop caring what everyone else thinks & just to wear the dang dress!

4 Stars! This book kept me interested and invested the whole time and I enjoyed reading it. I was getting teary eyed on one page and smiling the next. The main character, Phoebe, was funny, real, sad yet witty, even through the sadness of her life & the secondary characters were, for the most part, lovable and I was rooting for all of them to have a happy ending. I wouldn’t say this was a romance, but the ending makes you think the romance is coming for 2 couples after the book ends. I would’ve liked an epilogue to hint at those relationships a bit more but all in all it was a fabulous read that I’d definitely recommend. *I received this book at no charge & I voluntarily left this review.*
