The deluxe version has some great quality coins and figures. The expansion it comes with also adds some nice variability to the gameplay. My roommate and I love it!

A bright, fun, colorful game of traveling, eating, and checking out GREAT views! Tokaido is a very fun game that consists of players traveling the Tokaido road, a historic sea path from Kyoto to Edo in Japan. As players make this trek, they Shop for souvenirs, work on Farms for money, enjoys beautiful Panoramas and Hot Springs, donates at Temples, and have various Encounters all before arriving at various Inns for a delicious meal along the way. While that may seem like a lot, the game plays in a straightforward way that is easy to understand and fun to do. The colorful board and cards provide an amazing viewing pleasure and transmit all the necessary information with minimal text and maximum graphic enjoyment. The “game” is choosing when, and whether, to visit specific locations on this journey. Traveling quickly might get you to a coveted location, but you may have to pass up on other opportunities allowing others to grab them. The Deluxe Edition also comes with figurines that add a nice little touch and an in-box expansion, Crossroads. These aren’t needed but are nice additions to a great game. I highly recommend this game to families and gamers looking for a fun, beautiful game that is full of choices yet doesn’t overstay it’s welcome.
