Tropical Living's 100% pure Jamaican black castor oil has a smooth texture and a rich, earthy scent derived from the best hand-picked beans grown in St. Thomas and other lush and fertile parishes of Jamaica, and roasted in the traditions of ancient Africa. We do offer cold pressed products however this item is not.

A: Tropic Isle Living's Jamaican Black Castor Oil is made using traditional methods and does not involve the use of hexane (a chemical solvent). Therefore, it is hexane-free. However, this oil is not cold-pressed as it is extracted through a process of roasting and boiling.

A: Jamaican castor oil 4 oz bottles have always been glass bottles to my knowledge, at least the extra dark and the regular versions I used in the past.

I have been using this everyday mixed with my face lotion and body lotion and it keeps my skin moisturized longer. My teenage daughter started using this too on her face and it helps with her acne prone skin. It is helping with her blackheads and lessening the inflammation during a breakout. I use it on my hairline as a treatment before I clarify my hair day. I love the cigarette smell, but it's diminished after a while. The benefits overcome the smell for me and my daughter.

This product might be nice if you used it FAR AWAY from your face, but it reeks so strongly of cigar/cigarettes that it gave me a headache when I used it on my scalp and neck. I read (after the fact) that Jamaican black castor oil is roasted and yellow castor oils has no scent…hope this helps someone before they waste their time on this one.

This oil irritated and caused a few breakouts with only one use. The smell is unpleasant but that was anticipated to a degree because it's a castor oil product. If you have sensitive skin this might not be a good fit for you.

THE SMELL OF THIS OIL WAS VERY UNPLEASANT. IT DID NOT HAVE THE COLOR OF OTHER BLACK CASTOR OILS AND THERE WAS NO INFORMATION ON WHETHER IT IS HEXANE FREE. I WILL NOT PURCHASE THIS AGAIN.

If you are looking for a 100% black castor oil, get this one. There are other ones that say they are castor oil but have like 20 different ingredients. Lastly, the smell. Yes it smells but you gotta remember it is fire roasted and 100% castor oil. (It’s easy to tolerate) so far so good, no complaints :)

I've been using this brand for years. I like that it's quality and it's very nourishing to my hair. Yes, as many reviews stated, it is thick and has a strong smell but it works wonders on my thick hair.

I’ve been using the Tropic Isle castor oil in the plastic bottle and it smells fine, but this stuff smells horrible. It smells like cigarettes and it’s so much thicker than the other oil I’ve used. The only reason I bought this one was because the one I usually use was sold out. I love the Tropic Isle castor oil but I will never buy this one again.

Love this stuff. The bottle is different from when I originally started buying this product but it’s all the same. My edges are coming back thick and full. I use this on my eyelashes and eyebrows everyday and they are growing like wildflowers. I also use this and whipped Shae butter as a lotion. Keeps my skin moisturized all day and helped fade some scars. I use it on my stretch marks but I haven’t seen any big results. I’d recommend everyone use this. And use sparingly. A little goes a long way.
