Review Quotes

"Catechesis begins very early in life. The hearts and minds of our kids are being shaped by the media, models, and voices around them--for better or worse. Christian parents should try to surround their kids with resources for healthy spiritual formation. That's why I love the Baby Believer(R) series from Catechesis Books. It's never too early to teach theology to little ones!"
--Brett McCracken, senior editor at The Gospel Coalition, author of The Wisdom Pyramid: Feeding Your Soul in a Post-Truth World

"I'm a huge (full-grown) believer in the Baby Believer series. We know the Word of God does not return void. These books provide a wise, winsome, and creative way to begin sowing the seeds of biblical truth into the hearts and souls of our children. When the core concepts of the Christian proclamation are sown into us from an early age, those seeds will bear their fruit in the right season."
--Timothy Dalrymple, president and CEO of Christianity Today

"The Baby Believer series offers big theological truths to little hearts in a beautiful and simple way. They make great gifts for new moms!"
--Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler, cofounders of Risen Motherhood

A must-have for your Christian book collection

5 out of 5 stars

We have twin girls (aged 3.5) and we started our Baby Believer collection when they were two years old. We now own every book in the series and they play an integral role in teaching our children about the Lord. When this book hit shelves, I acquired it immediately and knew it would be a solid addition to our collection. What I did not know is that it would be my favorite book in the series, yet! I'm especially appreciative for this resource since our church is currently meeting online and Sunday lessons in person are not a reality for our kids, this year. This book-- and the other Baby Believer books-- are a main resource in teaching our girls about the Lord, and I recommend these books to everyone I know.

This book is a blessing! For each letter of the alphabet, a central tenet of the Christian faith is broken down + explained in a way littles can understand— while meant for children, the truths within its pages have not been compromised or watered down. Which I love! Often times kids are more willing & ready to receive Jesus, whereas we adults are skeptical or guarded. This book is a colorful, hopeful, God breathed tool for discussing ‘why we believe what we believe’ with your children. I highly recommend it!

Big Theology for Little Minds!

5 out of 5 stars
Bethany N - 5 years ago
"We Believe: An Alphabet Primer" is a fantastic way to introduce little minds to big theology! As a parent to two young boys, it is exciting to have resources available that not only encourage basic education like the alphabet, but also lay a solid biblical foundation for their hearts and minds. My husband and I are devoted to teaching our children about Jesus, and Danielle Hitchen has supplied us with practical, engaging books to do that very thing. And quite honestly, this book and others alike help me (an adult woman) remember Scripture and biblical truths; it is truly a resource for all ages.

We Believe is my favorite baby believer book so far! I love that Danielle Hitchen chose words that make each two page spread into a theme - this builds connections in your mind and I can tell how much thought and study was put into making this simple but deep book. The text is selected from traditional christian creeds and bible passages in a way that feels deeply rich & connected. I have found myself picking it up to read and contemplate. I keep trying to decide on a favorite spread and I can't! The illustrations are beautiful and my toddler seems to love the detailed font on the letters - he keeps reaching out to touch the alphabet letters. This book has layers and will grow with my child and I love that it teaches "what we believe" in a succinct, clear, and connected way.

Full of truth, goodness, and beauty for little (or all) hearts

Well Danielle Hitchen and Jessica Blanchard do it again! Another wholesome book chock full of Biblical truth and beautiful illustrations to speak deeply to the hearts of my children. With every new book that they publish I always have a new favorite. This is no different. What makes this seemingly simple board book stand out from the rest is that it contains all things necessary for salvation…imagine that, in a board book. Pieces of whole concepts are seamlessly woven together to paint the entire (though basic) picture of salvation for children and parents alike. While my toddler is currently thrilled he can name all the letters, I know this will continue to delight him for years to come as he uncovers and understands more truth presented here. Buy this for family and friends to gift them with something holding great reward.

Must have for your home library for young ones!

We Believe: An Alphabet Primer is the newest board book in the Baby Believer series, and it is a must add to your collection! This doctrinally-based book highlights words and ideas from A to Z that are rooted in scripture or creeds from church history. The illustrations (once again!) are captivating and beautifully done, which engage even the youngest of readers. I appreciate being able to teach my children the alphabet alongside theology, and I know that as my children get older, I will be able to continue reading this book and extending on its concepts. I would highly recommend this book, as well as any other book in the series, as we have them all at home and enjoy reading them over and over again! I received We Believe compliments of Harvest House Publishers in exchange for my honest review.

A top notch book! We are homeschooling for the first time and adore this book and how it enriches the learning experience! My 5 year old and 1 year old are drawn to the colorful pictures and my son is so intrigued by the verses, lyrics, and creeds that coordinate with the alphabet letters. I love that it’s not dumbed down and uses the language we use at church. It reinforces alphabet and biblical concepts in a simple, beautiful, and fun book! Couldn’t be happier to add this to our home library that already include several baby believer books.

‘What do I believe?’ It’s probably one of the first questions we ask of ourselves as children, though probably not in those words. We look for answers from a young age as our worldview forms. As Christians, our worldview comes from God’s word. Our hearts are transformed and minds are shaped by what God has revealed of himself through the Bible. In “We Believe: An Alphabet Primer,” Danielle Hitchen gives scriptural backing to the major tenets of the Christian faith. What I love the most about the entire Baby Believer series is the commitment to use biblical language. She doesn’t skimp or shy away from using big theological words like: sin, repentance, forgiveness, crucifixion; and this book is right in step with the last. Our kids need to be familiar with biblical language and given the truth for their big questions. We need to know what ‘we believe.’ Each letter of the alphabet is paired with beautiful illustrations that will not only capture your kid’s interest, but also give visual explanation to the page. You will recognize lines from scripture, the Apostle’s creed and the Nicene creed. Danielle even gives background in church history and an explanation of Greek words. I know these books are geared towards kids, but I find them very beneficial for me. These books give me ample opportunity: to share the gospel with my kids in an everyday kind of way, to answer their questions, to reflect on the goodness and glory of God, and to help me share the Bible as a seamless story from Genesis to Revelation. You would be greatly blessed to pick this book up, as well as any of the other books in this series.

Adding Theology to everday learning

We LOVE the Baby Believers book series, and this is by far our favorite yet! My 2 and a half year old loves pointing out the letters (yay, letter recognition) while we talk about different aspects of theology (hello, apostles creed!). Seriously, such a great way to incorporate such great theology into our everyday learning routine, while not watering down the theology at all. The artwork is absolutely beautiful and adds so much to the concepts! My 6 month old loves the colors and art as well. This book has been used EVERYDAY by our family. My 2 year old even packed it when we went on vacation! This is a great investment and will be used for years by our family!

All of my kids have loved this book. My oldest enjoys the scriptures, my middle who is recognizing her letters, and my youngest loves the vibrant pages. As the mom, I love that it is a beautiful book for us all, that each letter shares truth, and we can all enjoy it as a family, plus the pages and book are thick cardboard and durable for little hands, and lots of use since my kids love books! Thankful to add this to our bookshelf!

As a mama who takes seriously the responsibility of discipling my little ones, I am so thankful for resources like Catechesis Books. The artwork is simple yet still beautifully detailed with colors that are eye catching and interesting to little eyes and minds and they take big theological topics and make them relatable and understandable for even the youngest. They have even helped me learn and grow!

A beautiful family must-have!!

I first discovered the Baby Believer board books before my eldest child was born and immediately fell in love with the rich colors and content. Now in the thick of mothering a 3-year-old with another baby arriving any day, I realize even more so the need for scripture-based family resources such as these. Sometimes, we underestimate the spiritual sponges that are our children. We dumb things down, not realizing their unique and God-given capacities to understand theology deeply. We Believe: An Alphabet Primer is not merely for children though - my husband and I have both learned from and been challenged by the scriptures and creeds found in these vibrant pages. I find myself equally encouraged and convicted to teach our children truth about God. Looking forward to years ahead of planting seeds of faith through We Believe!

Great for all ages!

Another great book in the Baby Believer series! Once again, all of my children ages toddler-6 years old are enjoying this beautiful book. These board books have served our family very well and this one is no exception. We love that we can teach our little one to both understand the basics of reading through the alphabet AND start to grasp the essential truths and doctrines of our faith. We also love that Christ-centered conversations naturally arise with our older children after reading through these pages. Hitchen has done a great job curating content that is either straight from scripture or from historical church sources. Blanchard's art work illustrates the beauty of our belief so well. I especially appreciate the representation of God's diverse creation throughout this book. We're so thankful for this series!

Must Have for Christian Families!

'We Believe' is phenomenal - and I don’t say that lightly. As someone who thoroughly audits every single book my kids obtain, this new addition to the Baby Believer series will be a "forever keeper" in our home! It blends familiar concepts (ABCs) with engaging theological concepts (Everlasting Life, Trinity, Zion), making it easy for littles to grasp. You will see letter associations that you expected to see (ex: C for Church, J for Jesus) as well as ones you didn't (ex: K for the greek phrase 'Kyrie Eleison’). As you turn the pages, the simple but stunning graphics will catch your attention every time! Each occasion I’ve read this through with my kids (almost 2, almost 4) it has stirred their hearts. It brings my mama heart so much joy to hear them ask new and deeper questions with each reading. Our personal parenting belief is to “provide our kids with theology that they can grow into instead of grow out of”. 'We Believe' absolutely meets that mark! 'We Believe’ is part of a series that has been an incredible tool that empowers (and humbles!) me as a parent. We all want our kids to have knowledge of God, but we often neglect “head knowledge” for only “heart knowledge”. This book helps grow BOTH and proactively provides solid truths that our kids can grasp and grow with. We are so thankful to have this book as an addition to the rest of our Baby Believer collection!

Family Favorite!

Our family LOVES We Believe! It has very quickly become a bedtime favorite in our house. The images are absolutely beautiful with bright vibrant colors and images that captivate my son's attention. Since We Believe is an alphabet primer it will grow as our family grows and allows for us to simply go over the letters or read the Bible verses depending on our son's attention span. The best part about this book is the fact that it's full of bible verses! We know that when we read the book with our son we're able to fill him with His truth and that everything he is learning about is God's word and not a made up story! We cannot reccomend this book enough!!

Catechesis books has done it again. We Believe is yet another amazing book in the Baby Believer series and this one might be my most favorite yet! While walking through the letters of the alphabet, littles (and bigs!) also learn about robust theological truths through creeds and texts from the Bible. I love that these books don't shy away from big words but rather use them and explain them so well through pictures and words. My little boy is 3 and I will catch him around the house saying snippets of these creeds and some of these words! Not only is this a great way to teach the letters in the alphabet, but it is also an amazing introduction to the doctrine of the church and even church history as it affords opportunities to talk about when these creeds were made and why! I find myself thinking deeply about these truths while sitting and reading them to my little ones. I absolutely love this book and every other book in the Baby Believer series! Also, the fact that all of them are board books is absolutely amazing for this mom of boys who love to destroy books!

What a sweet book this is! My kid’s range from infant to grade school and they all gather around to go through pictures (mostly) but my oldest will read to passages to his siblings. This instills a wonderful message and sets the foundation early. I didn’t know she had a collection of doctrine kid books so I’ll be getting those too! The book is also very durable (thick pages and held up with a water spill!)

Such a great book! Been a fan of Danielle and Jessica’s work for a while, and our family is so thrilled with her latest book! First, love how it meets any age reader where they are and teaches them about Christian doctrine and principals (yup, it even teaches you how to say “Kylie Eleison”). The main alphabet letter is large and easy for young readers to identify, and the descriptions of the concept are concise but detailed enough for older readers. Second, the pictures are lovely! The visuals do a fantastic job explaining the concept for the letter (personally a huge fan of the Old and New Testament being mapped out). Finally, the Bible verses and passages of classic Christian doctrine are very thoughtfully chosen, and go wonderfully with the pictures. So very thankful and excited for this book!
