Like the size of the rice cooker. I made the three cups to see how much rice I would get and it was a lot. Now, I have an idea of how much rice to cook on a regular basis. I also timed it from start to finish and it took about 45 mins - 30 mins to cook and 15 mins covered, so rice could fluff up.

So disappointed. I got this for my husband last Christmas. He loves rice! We have the Zojirushi mugs and love them so we thought this rice cooker was a no brainer. I don't know if ours is defective or what, but it spews sticky, starchy water out of the hole in the lid and all over our counter! I read on their website to make sure and wash the rice beforehand, and we have washed rice, soaked rice, rinsed and rinsed again. It doesn't matter. The cooker still spews everywhere! Also, the instructions say to let it sit on Keep Warm for 15 minutes once it finishes cooking, but when we did this, the rice turned out very dry. So now we put paper towels down when we cook it and unplug it as soon as it is done.

Most often with the NHS model rice cooker, spewing can be experienced if there is excess starch, the rice is not soaked before cooking, the water lines are not followed or if a part on the lid is missing. Since you have shared that you are rinsing the rice well and are soaking the rice, we can discount the first two as the cause. We recommend checking the lid to see if a little rubber ring is in the steam vent and to ensure the measuring cup is being used to measure the rice and the corresponding water lines in the pan are being followed. This is our second rice cooker of the same type. We love it! Never a care, never a concern…. It just makes the rice while we are making the rest of the dinner. Every kind of rice is perfect. The warning about cancer causing agents in this product are about the styrofoam in the packing, nothing else, so don’t worry. I am completely happy with this product. We have rice about three times per week, if that helps.

Works well, we wanted a basic rice cooker that also can be used as a steamer. The steam does spout everywhere, but read a tip to cover the whole with the rice spoon.

First, we recommend rinsing the rice really well to make sure all the excess starch is removed. The water should run somewhat clear. I did a bunch of digging around and wanted a rice cooker for a while. Was obsessed and it’s well known getting the Neurro Fuzzy model for $200 is top dog, told myself I’d try the base model and was planning on hating it, but honestly after using this version today, for price the NHS-06, you cannot go wrong. It made the best basmati rice I’ve had and I make good stovetop. This unit makes consistent rice, easy cleanup and takes up a small footprint. Makes more than enough rice for 4 people and leftovers - the small unit is likely all most people especially a couple, can’t see people eating more than 6 cups of rice. Maybe a family of 4 might want to 10 cup version. There were some reviews mentioning water splatter from the top hole during cooking that soaked the surrounding area and made a mess of the top - however, this was not the case for me - my unit and surrounding area was bone dry by the time the rice finished cooking. I rinsed the rice until the water ran clear, soaked 30 min in the rice cooker, then flipped the cook switch to on. Once done I let sit for 15 min, then fluffed. Very satisfied.

I purchased this product because it was supposed to be a steamer with basket and it is just a cooker and no basket, steamed rice is much healthier for you, so I might have to purchase a different product somewhere else

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. The NHS-06 is the small size of this model which doesn't inlcude a steaming basket and due to it's small size it is unable to steam properly. We want to assure you that our larger models do include a steaming basket that may work better for your needs. When it comes to cooking rice, we recommend our tried and tested three-step method that involves soaking, cooking, and steaming the rice. This particular model will cook the rice, and if you don't open the lid immediately after it's done, you can steam the rice by leaving it in the rice cooker for 15 minutes so you get rice cooked to perfection. We understand your concern for the health benefits of rice and we assure you that our rice cooker cooking method is just as healthy as just steaming the rice.
