Q: Is the rice cooker NHS-10 / 6 cup enough for 5-6 people?

A: Thank you for your inquiry. Whether the 6-cup capacity unit would be large enough would vary depending on the customer and how much cooked rice their household would need at once. The NHS-10 is designed to cook up to 6 uncooked cups of short/medium grain white rice, using the provided 6 oz. rice cooker measuring cup included with the unit. The aluminum inner cooking pan has a non-stick coating containing PTFE- a material commonly used for non-stick coating in cookware for conventional kitchen use (FDA approved). So disappointed. I got this for my husband last Christmas. He loves rice! We have the Zojirushi mugs and love them so we thought this rice cooker was a no brainer. I don't know if ours is defective or what, but it spews sticky, starchy water out of the hole in the lid and all over our counter! I read on their website to make sure and wash the rice beforehand, and we have washed rice, soaked rice, rinsed and rinsed again. It doesn't matter. The cooker still spews everywhere! Also, the instructions say to let it sit on Keep Warm for 15 minutes once it finishes cooking, but when we did this, the rice turned out very dry. So now we put paper towels down when we cook it and unplug it as soon as it is done.

We appreciate you sharing your experience with our rice cooker. We are sorry to hear that you have experienced some difficulties while using it. Most often with the NHS model rice cooker, spewing can be experienced if there is excess starch, the rice is not soaked before cooking, the water lines are not followed or if a part on the lid is missing. Since you have shared that you are rinsing the rice well and are soaking the rice, we can discount the first two as the cause. We recommend checking the lid to see if a little rubber ring is in the steam vent and to ensure the measuring cup is being used to measure the rice and the corresponding water lines in the pan are being followed. This is our second rice cooker of the same type. We love it! Never a care, never a concern…. It just makes the rice while we are making the rest of the dinner. Every kind of rice is perfect. The warning about cancer causing agents in this product are about the styrofoam in the packing, nothing else, so don’t worry. I am completely happy with this product. We have rice about three times per week, if that helps.

Im surprised it has so many good reviews. The lid isn’t snug on the top so the water spills over, water also shoots out from the venting hole on top. If you want water leaking on your counter top from the sides and top then sure purchase this rice cooker. It’s going in the trash!

Works well, we wanted a basic rice cooker that also can be used as a steamer. The steam does spout everywhere, but read a tip to cover the whole with the rice spoon.

We are so happy to hear that this rice cooker fit your needs. As for the steam issue, this can happen if there is too much excess starch in the rice, or too much water has been added. First, we recommend rinsing the rice really well to make sure all the excess starch is removed. The water should run somewhat clear. Then be sure to follow the water lines in the pan corresponding to the number of cups of rice you are cooking. I purchased this with all the great reviews thinking it was just what I needed bit it doesn't work. The rice is still hard. We eat rice everyday day with dinner.

For best results, we recommend soaking white rice for 30 minutes before cooking and leaving the lid closed for 15 minutes after cooking to let the rice fully cook and fluff up. I purchased this product because it was supposed to be a steamer with basket and it is just a cooker and no basket, steamed rice is much healthier for you, so I might have to purchase a different product somewhere else

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. The NHS-06 is the small size of this model which doesn't inlcude a steaming basket and due to it's small size it is unable to steam properly. We want to assure you that our larger models do include a steaming basket that may work better for your needs. When it comes to cooking rice, we recommend our tried and tested three-step method that involves soaking, cooking, and steaming the rice. This particular model will cook the rice, and if you don't open the lid immediately after it's done, you can steam the rice by leaving it in the rice cooker for 15 minutes so you get rice cooked to perfection. We understand your concern for the health benefits of rice and we assure you that our rice cooker cooking method is just as healthy as just steaming the rice. I have this company's bread machine and love it. This is a fail following the directions gives me very hard rice and doubling water to get a better rice it spews boiling hot water all over the counter. Even with recommended water it spews boiling hot water everywhere.
