Cord and hose lengths vary: power cords commonly range from about 3 to 16 feet (many handhelds list ~8–12 ft, while rolling units often include ~16 ft cords). Standing steamers may add a steam hose of roughly 5 ft for extra reach.

Wattage ranges by size and power: smaller handheld steamers are often around 800 watts, while upright and multi-surface steamers commonly reach up to about 1,500 watts.

Common features include automatic shut-off for low water or overheat protection, detachable or transparent water tanks for easy refilling, thermostat or multi-level steam controls (including foot pedals or level controls on some uprights), and no-drip designs or ceramic soleplates optimized for vertical steaming.
