flat extension

Flat extension cords are available in lengths from 4 feet up to 15 feet, with common options including 4 ft, 6 ft, 8 ft, 10 ft, and 15 ft.

Listings show 14 AWG and 16 AWG cable. Most cords are rated for up to 13 amps, with one listing specifying a 15-amp rating.

Flat and angled flat plugs have a low-profile design that lets furniture sit closer to the wall and keeps adjacent outlets accessible, allowing you to plug in devices without blocking the other receptacle.

Some units list surge protection with Joule ratings such as 1,080 J, 720 J, 300 J, and 250 J. Other cords are standard extension cords and do not list a joule rating.

Configurations range from 2 up to 6 grounded AC outlets. Some models also include USB charging ports—commonly two USB-A ports or a combination of two USB-A plus one USB-C—with certain listings showing a combined USB output of 2.4 A.

Many cords use braided or woven fabric coverings for a decorative look and improved tangle resistance; others use contractor-grade SJT cable with PVC insulation and jacket for a more heavy-duty finish.

The listings include common safety marks such as ETL and UL, and at least one item is identified as cUL listed (Canadian UL certification).

Some surge-protected models offer limited-lifetime replacement plans. A few specify connected-equipment protection—for example, one listing shows coverage up to $75,000—while many other cords do not advertise any connected-equipment policy.

Many cords provide grounded three-prong outlets. Some include spaced or adapter-style outlets to accommodate larger plugs, and at least one listing specifies tamper-resistant receptacles to help prevent foreign objects from entering the outlet.
