Ultra creams can be layered under makeup as a hydrating base, used as a primer to smooth skin, or applied as a glow-boosting highlighter. Richer formulations are often used to prep very dry skin before foundation, while lighter versions work well under daily makeup without pilling.

Formulations that support barrier repair commonly include ceramides (including tri-ceramide complexes), glycerin, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid. One product also references an MVE delivery technology to help maintain hydration over time.
