The layout of this bed is perfect for our space and needs. This is the twin XL (two top beds) with the queen bed on bottom. I’ll start with the most important part: the slide is downright dangerous. I wanted to love it, but my child hurt herself the first time down. I happened to be videoing, because, who has a slide on their bed IN their bedroom? It’s super fun. Unfortunately, it was not for her. I edited and uploaded the video if you have doubts. Also, the slide has a bar in the middle of the railing instead of a solid side for the rail, so it is easy for little appendages to get caught on the way down. With smaller children in the house, I couldn’t trust them to just use the slide as a roller derby for cars, so I had to take it down. The next biggest item is assembly… while every part is labeled and there are instructions, it’s easy to miss small details (that aren’t always called out in the instructions) about which way a part needs to face for a hole you will use ten steps later. There were a few pieces I had to disassemble, turn, and reassemble because the instructions weren’t super clear. Also, not all parts needed for every step are accurately listed in every step. There were quite a few pieces that could have been pre assembled without changing the boxed space a single bit. For example, the MDF inserts. They were shipped inside the metal frame, but you have to put 3-6 screws in each side to hold the board in place. Which doesn’t sound hard, but it’s a tight space, and some boards were not cut right and were fractionally too big and I had to hammer them in place with a mallet. There were sooooo many pieces I had to fit together. The assembly process was long and exhausting. Easily 8 hours. It can be done. But you’ll definitely want a drink. 🥃 The strongest part of this bed is the weight limits, its sturdiness, and overall build. It’s solid. And the arrangement with the desk is what I needed. But this could have been done so much better. I’m sad about the slide. Also, once assembled, there is no easy way to disassemble it and move it to another room. You cannot easily take anything off and move it. So plan on it being in whatever space you choose until you take it to the scrap yard. Be aware that this is not as tall as it looks in the pictures. The space under the desk is very short. My ten year old has made it her desk, but I had to buy a 12 inch stool as her chair, because any taller and her head would be hitting the bunk. She is 61 inches tall. The bottom lip of the desk is 22 inches for reference. I’m sure target would take this back, but honestly, it would be too difficult to disassemble and box back up. So keep that in mind as well. Once you’re in, you’re probably committed to this thing. Good luck!
