Description

About the Book

Cycling in Colombia is more than a sport: it is an epic tale that mixes endless mountains, impossible roads, and heroes born of the harshness of the land. From Efraín "el Zipa" Forero to Egan Bernal, via Lucho Herrera, Fabio Parra, and Nairo Quintana, Colombian cyclists have written pages of glory that transcend competition to become a symbol of collective identity and hope. With his vibrant and narrative style, Marcos Pereda, one of the most renowned writers in cycling journalism, reconstructs in this book the adventure of the "escarabajos" (beetles), those riders who defied altitude, poverty, and adversity to conquer Europe and the world. History, politics, myths, and tragedies intertwine in a work that goes far beyond sports reporting: it is a literary journey to the very heart of Colombia, a country that turned cycling into an everyday epic. An essential book for understanding why, in Colombia, cycling is a religion, a source of pride, and an eternal myth.
