A: TOO HARD TO DO. My previous answer was to discourage people from feezing liquids in Mason jars like they would plastic containers (these can swell.) There are a couple of ways, but they're too much work in my opinion. One is to put the contents in plastic bags first and leave a lot of expansion room in the jar. The second is to put the liquid directly in the Mason jar and leave an inch or inch-and-a-half at the top. Then you have to make the liquid very cold before you put the lid on. This will usually work, but it is a project. I still recommend NO, NO, NO unless you have a lot of time on your hands. Another thing about glass in the freezer is it is very brittle. You can easily break it by knocking another glass into it. It's brittle, not like plastics - which sometimes break also. In my expanded opinion, there's too much downside in storing glass in the freezer.

A: NO & NO! Glass cannot expand. It's brittle. If you put a liquid in the jar and freeze it, the liquid will expand and BREAK the jar - ANY jar. It's not a flaw in the glass, it's the lack of elasticity in glass. Plastic containers can expand and they should be used in the freezer. Notice how you never find glass containers in the freezer sections of the supermarket.
