I use this product to cover my greys without having to commit to a permanent colorant. I like that it gradually washes out without leaving super grey roots. There is no odor and it’s not complicated to apply. I don’t notice any drying or scalp issues.

The “dark brown #4” is NOT a dark brown! It came out an inky flat black color. I’m hoping with washes it will lighten up but be warned to go a few shades above your desired shade. This product did leave my hair shiny and soft with minimal if any damage but misleading color!!

We do want to thank you for trying our Clairol Natural Instincts line; yet, we are truly saddened to learn that you had darker results than intended! The use of a clarifying shampoo, followed by a deep conditioner can sometimes soften a color that is too dark. We also suggest, that you avoid the use of heat (ex: blow dryers, curling irons) which can further set the color in. I wanted to try this since my usual color in the GVP brand at Sally's seems to be discontinued. My goal is always a very neutral/cool-toned medium brown. On my mids/ends, this worked well and is a beautiful color. For some reason, though, it went super red on my roots. I'm not sure why since I have not used permanent hair color or bleach for years, so my whole head is technically virgin hair. It's cheap enough that I don't feel like I wasted my money, though!

Got this in a lunch to cover greys as I did not have time for a salon appointment. Came out at least a shade darker than expected and got maybe 70% grey coverage. Looking forward to it washing out. Would not use again.

I liked that this didn’t burn or irritate my scalp like other at-home dyes. The color was VERY dark (basically black - not brown at all). WARNING: THIS BLEEDS! I thoroughly washed it out and it bled all over my pillow cases and continued to bleed out in the shower for 4 days! It ruined the sheets and I had to deep clean my tub and shower to remove all the color stain. Would NOT recommend because of the constant bleeding and too dark of coloring.

I'm sensitive to chemicals and usually dread coloring my hair but this color was gentle, easy to use and no harsh smell. The color is rich and beautiful. It covers grays and my hair feels shiny and like silk! Please never change this!!! I used color 6 suede.

Had medium brown hair with highlights and bought medium brown demi permanent dye. This turned my hair the darkest shade of brown that won't wash off quick enough. I don't recommend it to any brunettes. Not that washable, 20 minutes is way too long.

The new package isn't the same at all. I've been using this product for years, thru a previous package change, and always been satisfied. Now it looks and feels different, formula is thinner and cheaper. The conditioner is thinner and cheaper too, this I know for sure as I had a tube from the last (old style) box and the consistency is NOT the same comparing tubes. My hair normally looks amazing, shiny, is soft and manageable. Not the same results at all from new packaging. Drier, tangled, not as shiny. What ever you did to the formula is terrible, change it back!

I mix this with 5c to cover my 85-90% gray hair. (I'm assuming by root line.) I have near zero porosity which absolutely affects how much dye gets deposited and I have to leave it in for longer than average. The homebrew dual-tone pairs perfectly wirh my cool-undertone fair skin. I've used Natural Instincts for over 10 years now, slowly letting go of the auburn tones that stopped working once a certain amount of hair started graying out. My hair grows fast and I have to touch up once a month but I love the condition my hair is in after using the dye and conditioner.
