They work!
These actually work on our mantle. I thought they wouldn’t because it’s made of flagstone of varying thickness. Of the 6 we bought, 5 are nice and tight, one is a little loose, but it still works. The first photo shows the loose one.

These clips are PERFECT. I searched everywhere online and I’m so glad I got these. They are sturdy and looks great. Such good quality and they fit my fireplace perfectly with no damage to the wood. Make sure you measure first so you know they’ll fit the mantle properly.
