We bought this for our daughter when she was about 5 months old and she loves to flip through the pages. She's 11 months old now and is still too young to fully understand the toy but still loves flipping through the pages and pressing the buttons. I can see how this could be serious sensory overload for some. It was for the child it was intended for. I love Vtech and have never had an issue like this one before. I've never been one to be bothered by noise making toys as they usually are the most entertaining to kids. The volume is INSANE even on the lower setting. I could hear it going off through the box when it was delivered as if it was up to my ear. Lots of flashing lights and sparatic music simultaneously. This could all be very good for some, not others so be aware of the recipient!
