Wish I had read this book in my 20's
First, the book feels geared to someone in their early to mid 20’s. If you are in that age bracket, or have very little knowledge of investing, this book is for you. The pros: this book was an easy read, and provided a lot of good information. The first half of the book focused on giving you a good understanding of what investing means and the terminology used, and the second half focused on strategies and how/when to apply them. The cons: for someone who is 35, this book felt geared to my younger 20-something self. Although the principles can be applied at any age, the reoccurring message is to start early, and the examples given were of just that. I also found the personal stories of other women hard to relate to. In one example, she highlighted a couple who saved $169k in two years. Many would not even make that (especially after taxes) early on in their careers. Other examples were lawyers at big city law firms, or other professionals, that appeared to have healthy starting salaries that afforded them the ability to accumulate six-figure retirement savings within a few years of starting their first job. Overall, this is a book I wish I had read in my early 20’s, and I think there’s a lot of solid advice that can be applied to anyone looking to maximize their savings and have their money work for them.
