Dr. Bronner's All-One Pure-Castile Magic Bar Soap - Unscented - 5oz: Cleansing, Whole Body Use, Normal Skin

A: Due to the alkalinity of our soaps, they can leave a tangly look and feel. An acidic rinse not only conditions your hair but also can tamp down the cuticles in your hair and give it a smooth and silky after-feel.  Rinsing with our Organic Hair Rinse (after rinsing the soap out) results in a spectacular look and feel! Just stir 1- 2 capfuls of the rinse into a cup of water, close your eyes, and slowly pour while massaging it into your hair. Keep a hand combing your hair until it feels entirely sleek (~30 seconds). Once your hair feels smooth, rinse the hair rinse out well and repeat this process if necessary. Additional rinses are typically only necessary in extra hard water conditions or for those with longer hair.  Please note that washing your hair with our soaps can be a process for some people, as your hair needs to adapt to using a true soap since they are not a shampoo. It can take a fair amount of trial and error and tinkering with what works best for your hair.  Additionally, using our Hair Rinse is optional, and not necessary to wash your hair with our soaps. If you have any delicate or luxurious garments such as silk, vintage items, or even waterproof materials, we recommend doing a spot test first, to make sure this product will be okay to use. Our products are intended for general use and can be used for many different purposes. While we currently don’t have a specialty line of products for pets, our Pure-Castile Soaps work very well for washing most dogs and we have heard from others that they work well on many other kinds of animals too. To wash your furry friend with our Pure-Castile Liquid Soap, first wet their fur well. Next, add enough soap to produce lather and massage it into the fur, all the way to the skin. The amount depends on the dog’s size, as well as the length, thickness, and texture of its fur but we suggest starting with about 1 tsp. and using more if needed. As with people, be careful to keep the soap out of your pups’ eyes. Finally, rinse their fur well, making sure that all the soap has been thoroughly rinsed off. For possible concerns about essential oils, please note that a high concentration of some essential oils can be toxic to some pets, (some pets are more sensitive than others). However, products containing essential oil concentrations of less than 1–2% are generally considered nontoxic if used according to label directions. Rest assured that the essential oils in our Pure-Castile Soaps and Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner fall within this range. We suggest trying out our Peppermint-scented soaps as they are the most popular for dogs and tend to deter most insects and pests, however, if you are uncomfortable using a product with essential oils on your pet, consider our Baby Unscented Castile Soap variety. Although our soaps should not pose any threat to your pet when used according to our recommendations, we understand that health is very important, so we encourage you to consult with your local veterinarian should you have any concerns. A: Hi, thank you for contacting Dr. Bronner's! Our Bar Soap works well on dishes, though perhaps not quite as well as Sal Suds. We recommend keeping a bar by the sink and using a dish brush. Wet the brush. Run it across the bar of soap and you’ll have a good amount of soap for getting your dishes clean. You can also add 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) grated Bar Soap or ¼ c. (60 mL) soap cream to about 1 ½ gallons (6 L) to very warm running water and swish to dissolve. Lastly, if you have hard water, it is possible to encounter some mineral build-up when using our Pure-Castile Soap. The interaction of hard water, and even soft water, with any true soap (not synthetic detergent-based soaps), can leave behind a thin film of minerals that appears as residue or “soap scum.” Hard water contains dissolved minerals in the form of calcium and magnesium. All true soaps, such as castile soap, will react with these minerals to form insoluble stearates, which are visible as a whitish precipitate. This whitish precipitate builds up primarily on surfaces where water is left to dry, such as in sinks and showers. It is typically not an issue on floors, counters, or other hard surfaces where the castile soap is diluted for cleaning and standing water is mopped or wiped up. You can easily dissolve residue left from our soap with vinegar by diluting one cup (240 mL) of vinegar in a quart (1 L) of water and spraying it on the affected surfaces.
