Q: Is the app required to use this? Like if you initially set it up in the app but then just wanted to manually turn it on and off (light or sound) is that possible?

submitted by PottedCatPlant - 4 months ago
  • A: Great question! The app is required to set it up, but you can set up touch ring routines in the app, which allow you to turn it on manually with the touch ring.

submitted byHatch - 3 months ago
  • A: Great question! While the device does need to be connected to the Hatch Sleep app initially, after that, you can use the touch ring and buttons on the device to turn the light and sound on and off!

Q: Do you have to pay a subscription to use the toddler lock feature?

submitted by jcrenee - 7 months ago
  • A: Great question! You do not need a Hatch+ subscription to use the toddler lock feature.

submitted byHatchTeam - 7 months ago
  • A: No, we don’t pay for the subscription and are able to use the lock feature.

Q: What are the highest and lowest decibels the sounds make?

submitted by Jackie - 1 year ago
  • A: Great question! The decibel level is very dependent on the environment — factors like room size, placement, and surfaces play a big role in the equation.

Q: will this do a sunrise alarm?

submitted by beachgirl - 2 years ago
  • A: No, but you can have the alarm set to be yellow like a sunrise.

submitted byZoozilla - 11 months ago
  • A: Restore and Restore 2 both feature a sunrise alarm that will gently wake you up with light, mimicking a natural dawn!

submitted byHatch - 2 years ago

Q: Is there a reason this is geared to babies and kids? Is it good for adults too?

submitted by Nancy - 2 years ago
  • A: Rest/Rest+ 2nd gen’s features & content are designed with babies & kids in mind; that said, they do have pre-loaded sounds that may be helpful for adults. Our Hatch+ membership offers more sounds too.

submitted byHatch - 2 years ago
  • A: Yeah, I like mine. If you get up at night to go the bathroom the light feature is helpful so you don’t fall.

submitted byZoozilla - 11 months ago

Q: Does the hatch have brown noise as an option?

submitted by not worth it - 5 months ago
  • A: Geat Question! Yes, it does include brown noise as a free sleep sound.

submitted byHatch - 3 months ago

Q: Is this product FSA eligible?

submitted by Kmac - 8 months ago
  • A: Great question! FSA reimbursement depends on your specific plan. We recommend checking with your FSA administrator to confirm if Rest 2nd gen is eligible for coverage.

submitted byHatchTeam - 7 months ago

Q: Can you have 2 units (one for each kid) and control both with one app?

submitted by Rachel - 9 months ago
  • A: Great question! Yes you can control each device on a single Hatch Sleep app.

submitted byHatchTeam - 8 months ago

Q: I couldn't get the 2nd gen to connect to my internet. I have the 1st gen and it works fine. Is there something different with this one?

submitted by Ashe - 10 months ago
  • A: Rest 2nd gen connects via WiFi, while Rest 1st gen uses bluetooth. When you have a moment, please send us a message at review@hatch.co and make sure to include code [HB25BZRE7]. We would love to help!

submitted byHatchTeam - 7 months ago

Q: Will my hatch still work if the power goes out?

submitted by Avian - 10 months ago

    (no review title)

do not buy specifically for a baby/nursery. the app takes forever to load, a subscription is required for different sounds/colors besides the default. if not connected to wifi you cannot update any of the settings. just not easy to use with an upset baby. if wanting a nursery sound machine pick something not as complicated.

    3rd Hatch and slightly disappointed

I’ve loved all of our Hatch devices. We just got our 3rd for our 3rd baby. The fan sound cuts in and out, often pausing, which is disruptive to sleep. I love the wind down routines and wake up lights.

    Bring back 1st Gen!

I wish I could buy another 1st gen. We have that for our oldest and it’s been great! This one has too many unnecessary options and is more complicated. It does not get even close to as loud as the 1st generation.

    Expensive Junk

Broke after one year of use. We were very gentle with it and kept it on a dresser. Now the cord is SO sensitive and doesn’t work 9/10 times. Even when plugged all the way in, the connection is finicky and you have to delicately try to twist the cord to potentially get it to turn on. Sometimes will turn off on its own because of the bad wires. Was great when it lasted. It helped my 4 year old know when he could get out of bed in the morning. We ended up just going back to our original tried and true $15 sound machine. This thing is expensive junk!

    Prices increase!!!

The clock feature is very bright even on the lowest setting. We have several Hatch brand sound machines and this version is too complicated to set up. We prefer the 1st gen for simplicity. However, it doesn't provide brown noise so it's a no go now. We. Like the light features but again, it's impossible to get it configured right and easily. Worst of all is the price increases. Normal price is $59, but it randomly spikes to $69 near holiday and sales times. Sneaky! We are looking elsewhere for sound and wake-up machines.

    Doesn't last

I am currently on my second sound machine. After a few months the sound started glitching in and out. I assumed it was something we did, so we threw it away and got another one. Well, it’s been a few months and we are having the same issue again. Very frustrated because we levied these products before but now I guess they’re not made as well. Disappointed and won’t be getting anymore hatch products.

    App updates and bug fixes

We have owned this for over a year now. If you are only planning to use it as a night light, it works great. Slightly defeats the purpose though. The amount of app updates for bug fixes, you would think you would be able to have nonstop sound, for even a half hour. The amount of times that it glitches or the sound cuts completely out and then a couple minutes later comes back on, is ridiculous. There is no way a child can get a restful sleep with it doing that. I thought I was upgrading by buying this machine. I would have been better off staying with a generic one that was in the baby aisle, at a fraction of the cost.

    Unreliable

I’m very disappointed with the Hatch Rest. Ours has been unreliable from the start. It randomly shuts off on its own, which has woken my two-month-old baby multiple times. On top of that, the touch ring doesn’t work properly if we’ve turned it on or off with the app, making it frustrating to use. We relied on this to help our baby sleep, but instead it’s caused unnecessary stress. For the price, I expected much higher quality and consistency.

    Doesnt really work

The white noise works fine but when I try to turn it off by pressing the top of the Hatch it never works on the first second or sometimes even third time. I’ve reset it and it still has that issue so I assume I got a dud.

First Time Moms - Do Not Buy

We wanted a simple night light / sound machine combo and this was not it. Having to download an app was the first strike. It was not easy to set up a sound/light combo that ran continuously. It constantly turned off when being picked up and needed to be reconnected daily (unplugged and plugged back in which isn’t convenient when it shuts off during feeding). Returning and already bought a $17 nightlight sound machine on Amazon that’s so simple and works great.

    Hard Pass

This is incredibly cheap feeling. There were scratches all over the front of the plastic. The hour doesnt display when thr alarm goes off. You have to pay for a monthly membership to get access to the "exclusive content". Hard pass. At this price point, and for the cheap quality of this, you should be buying access to the full app.

    Want to love it more

I have 3 Hatch products, so I like it enough- I just wish I could like it more! We started off with the Hatch mini which is no longer sold. Did the job for two years, no complaints. We upgraded to the Rest 2nd Gen when my first born got a little bit older, and bought another one for my second child. I have been less happy with these. I feel like the app is not very user friendly, and the audio is finicky. I recently trialed Hatch+ for the story feature and have been excited about the potential but ultimately disappointed. Some stories are loud some are incredibly quiet (within the same "album") the interface to browse the stories and songs does not make sense to me, and the length listed for the audio is not accurate or helpful. It's not super easy to edit the routines to add in a story. I wish there was a time scrub so I could see how much time was left. I wish there was a way to queue another story or queue the bedtime routine to start without having to completely disrupt and edit the established routine. I do think the app could be great with a few tweaks, but I'm not sure if I will continue with Hatch plus once the subscription is over. Overall, a sound machine in our bedtime routine is necessary, and this one is just fine for this purpose.
