Finish could be better

Good construction, decent finish. The mantel was finished in a whitewash. I understand that each project will be different, but I did not find the whitewash to look very good. Definitely didn't have the same look as the picture. The was no grain visible, it just looks like a bunch of straight lines that were sanded off.
