Square version of this rug is so versatile
It was really helpful to be able to order this rug in the 7'10" square version. I'm working on getting the right rugs for a new house, even though the floors are not finished; this helps me stay motivated and excited through the physical slog of whole-house flooring installation. The dining area is not a perfect rectangle or square, so I decided to break it into a square rug and a runner that begins the exit down the long central hall. I'd imagined this square rug "pointing" to the (pending) runner that will come in from the front entry (where the black underlayment and ladder are in my foto). But when I laid this green lattice rug that way, it fought with the existing runner that leads down the central hall. Now that I've rotated the rug 90 degrees, it looks perfect. The "wrenches" are now parallel with the existing runner and harmonize, yet the rows of "connected diamonds" point to the front entrance in a more subtle way. The color also plays nicely with others. I was afraid the dark olive might be too heavy near the sage-combo (existing) runner with its mid-range earth tones, but this is a perfect compliment. The green is true to the description photos on the item page, and the thread colors are consistent; the green isn't a combination of green and blue threads (for instance). Overall, this offers a tribal note that is abstract--that is, no one particular culture, but still gives a symbolic vibe that pulses with life. Highly recommended!
