I love the look of this lamp but unfortunately it is not designed well. I did an online order for pickup because I was worried about it selling out. When they showed me the lamp the arm had come loose and was flopping sideways. They were able to find another one that was not defective and I took that home. It seems there is a design flaw because I only turned the lamp on and off a few times over the course of a few weeks but eventually the arm came loose and flopped sideways just like the other one. There is no way for me to tighten it so I had to return it. I'm hoping they redesign this and if so I will purchase that as it's such a great solution for a bookcase. 4 stars for looks, but if it isn't structurally sound it's not worth it.

PSA remove the plastic cover in the back covering the metal nut and then use pliers to tighten it. so it stops turning upside down if you breathe near it. I was about to give up but that fixed it.

Yes, flops, but you can fix it
Worth it when on sale, $35. All 4 came flopped over. But thanks to one of the reviews if you can put something in the back to wedge the bolt from turning, it will help. I'm considering super gluing it and calling it a day. To me, it's worth the price for a plugin light with turn switch under the lamp shade.

Love this! I will say I purchased it in stores vs. pickup and I’m glad I did because the store had 2 left and one was not the best quality. The gold arm kept rotating. If you’re buying, buy in person! Cord is long and easy to turn on and off!

Good Idea But Needs Fixing
Hi, this is the other half. We bought this but soon discovered a problem: it was floppy and would not stay upright. We fixed this by hammering two 1/4" dowels into the back around the bolt (nobody can see them), and now the lamp stays upright. Shame on Magnolia for their poor design.

Doesn't stay upright
I retired the first one I ordered and picked up from the store, thinking it was defective. Well, I brought home the new one (which did not show any signs of being defective) and within two weeks it’s starting to fall side to side. I find myself straightening it multiple times a day. I might try to glue the hardware in the back to keep it straight. I really like the look, just wish the quality was better.

Fantastic book end lights
This is such a clever idea. My office is rather dark and i didn't want to add additional overhead light. I have one of these on each side of the shelves and they provide a perfect amount of light in addition to the regular overhead light that we have. they look more high end than they are. Addition wood color options would be amazing!

Unique Lamp Great for Shelves
Obsessed with this lamp, went back for a second to make it a pair! I love the gooseneck, and the brushed brass accents combined with the wood. It really ties together my eclectic collection of things on the bookshelf. Because it sits out a little, it’s great light for the whole shelf down to the bottom. I want a second pair! I did have to take pliers to the back bolt and tighten the arm. No big deal

I wanted to love this because it's such a fun and interesting design idea. Sadly the reality of this is, that it's a bit too big of a lampshade in my opinion and also the arm holding the lamp started getting loose after handling it just a for a little bit. That obviously shouldn't happen. I went to the store to exchange and the other two lamps also had loose arms. Also the wooden parts had blemishes when it arrived.

Bookshelf lamp
Loved these lamps and looked great in my bookshelf, but had to return! The arms of the lamps are loose and sometimes they would turn upside down. I tried to tighten them from the back but very hard since the cord is in the way.

I bought this lamp from a store that purchases returned/damaged items from Target. It’s a great lamp! If the neck of it is wobbly, tighten the back screw and that fixes it. Mine did not come with the shade so a simple one from Target was put on and gave it an updated modern look.

This is a very unique lamp and I’ve never seen anything like it. The one thing I did not like about it is that it could easily be tilted so that the light was horizontal. It made me feel like the quality may not be the best. Other than that this lamp is very cute and would look great on a bookshelf. I love the colors of it with the light wood tone, and the gold hardware.
