Q: safe filling it with water?
A: Hi ab! The 20 Gal. Latching Storage Tote is made out of Polypropylene plastic, and was designed for general household use. This item was not designed with the intent to store a full tote's worth or water-nor is it watertight/waterproof, air tight or bug proof, but the latches will keep the cover securely fastened to the base to keep contents protected. Q: How many pounds can it hold?
A: Hi Swirly P! The 20 Gal Latching Storage Tote is made of Polypropylene plastic, and is designed for general household storage. Most household storage purposes do not require suggested weight limitations. Our products have not been specifically tested for various weight potential, and we suggest consumers not overload them or stack more than three high. This could cause distortion or eventual damage. When storing items away, use good judgment and be mindful of the weight in each tote and place the heaviest tote on the bottom.

Q: Is the bottom smooth on the inside or does it have a raised middle?

These plastics do not contain PVC's, Latex, Teflon, Phthalates chemicals, fungicides, Bishphenol A (BPA), or antibacterial chemicals. Nor do we use them in the manufacturing process of our items.

A: Hi Inquirer! All of our products, including the 20 Gal. Latching Tote , are made of food safe grade polypropylene or polyethylene plastic. These materials have been approved by the FDA as food safe. It is the same material used to produce all of our food storage items. To ensure we offer only quality and safe products, no PVCs, Latex, Teflon, Phthalates chemicals, fungicides, Bisphenol A (BPA), or antibacterial chemicals are used in our manufacturing process. Sterilite does not use any harmful materials in the production of our products.
