Most household storage purposes do not require suggested weight limitations. Our products have not been specifically tested for various weight potential, and we suggest consumers use good judgment and not overload them or stack more than three high. This could cause distortion or eventual damage.

  • A: Hi MS1413! The 12 Gal Latching Storage Tote is made of Polypropylene plastic. Sterilite only uses high quality food safe grad plastics that are non toxic. These plastics do not contain PVC's, Latex, Teflon, Phthalates chemicals, fungicides, Bisphenol A (BPA), or antibacterial chemicals. Nor do we use them in the manufacturing process of out items.

    Plastic smell

    I wiped it down with disinfectant wipes, let it air out, but after a couple months, it still wreaks of plastic when I open the lid. I stored clean towels in it and it made all the towels smell like plastic. I’m trying to air it out in the sun for a week or so which is supposed to help with plastic smells. But it is nice and sturdy.

    Hi Shilpa! Our Storage products are made of Polypropylene plastic. Polypropylene sometimes has a plastic smell (especially the clear products) when first purchased that dissipates fairly rapidly once the product is unpacked and put to use. Washing with a lemon scented or grease fighting detergent and rinsing thoroughly helps dispel any noticeable odor. Detergents sometimes adhere to plastics and you will want to wipe and rinse well. Air or towel dry.

    Very thin and cheap plastic.

    These totes are made of extremely thin plastic and they are already getiing white patches from bending seams on the sides and I haven't even used them yet. Poor quality, but if you just need a cheap bin to hold very light, soft items it might be ok. If you are expecting nice heavy duty bins that you can use for a long time, these are it.
