Q: How do you shorten the rod once it has been extended? Mine will not go back in?

A: Hello Mandy, this rod may be in lock position, we recommend holding the smaller pole and rotate counter clockwise (turning towards you) to unlock the rod, from there you will be able to extend or shorten the rod. Thank you..

I need to hang some curtains on a temporary basis in my living room and kitchen - regular windown curtain rods are too much trouble and not steady, unless you drill holes in the wall which I don't want to do - this shower curtain rod has great tension and stays firmly on the wall - does not sag in the middle - I only wish they can come up with a skinner version so I can use them all over my house

Be patient when trying to get it to extend
What i liked is that we finally got it to work, meaning able to stretch it, release it, so we could get it opened to hang the curtain. It was quite difficult and the directions weren’t too helpful. Read reviews after bringing it home.. so far it has not fallen down like reviewers mentioned. It’s been a week or so, and I’m grateful! Bottom line: it’s doing its job.
