Q: This turner is disclosed as having the following hazardous chemicals: toluene, xylene and ethyl acetate. Are these in the varnish? Can these toxins be removed by washing ... or with sandpaper?

It smells! When I got it I washed it by hand and noticed a smell but it wasn't a big deal. After I put it in the dishwasher on a light cycle and smelled a smell. I opened the dishwasher and it magnified the smell even more. The clean dishes smelled like the spatula. I immediately threw out the spatula and rewashed the dished. The smell wasn't getting out of the wood.

This arrived damaged, split down the center. The wood does not seem to be of great quality if it splinters that easily. I returned this item and the matching spoon because it was made of the same material.
