I noticed a warning on the packaging, so I looked up the chemicals involved and found that these chemicals (xylene & toluene) should not be used in wooden utensils in contact with food. VERY disappointing.

Toxic Varnish
Did not realize this spatula’s varnish contain toxins. It was not listed on the tag, nor did it contain the California warning. Only after I purchased it did I notice the varnish was very think and unlike other natural wooden utensils I have. I am surprised Target would purchase this item knowing its varnish contains too very toxic ingredients found in paint and fingernail polish.

Coated with NOT FOOD SAFE chemicals
Figmint’s utensils are coated with chemicals that are NOT food safe. There is a tiny warning on the side of the packaging, and if you research the chemicals, you will find they should not ever be used on food utensils. It’s a cheap, toxic way to make the wood look good. There is also an easy-to-miss warning on Target’s online product page. Why is Target selling this?? I’m going to try the Hearth & Hand brand that does not have the chemical warning.

Not food safe
Trying to make safer choices and reduce the amount of plastic in our house, so I impulsively bought these wooden utensils. However - read the label - these are not food safe and there are a multitude of toxins from the wood stain. Every time you cook, a percentage of the literal poison from the wood stain is going into your food. Returned immediately.

Finish chips/flakes off
The finish on the utensil comes off while using it when cooking. Which means those chemicals and that finish product is in my food and we are eating it. I was super disappointed in this product. I got both the spoon and the spatula and both were chipping the finish off.

All Figmint wooden utensils contrail the harmful chemicals Toluene, Xylene, and Ethyl. Do not buy. Pioneer Woman's wooden utensil collection is a good alternative.

The label says “This product contains: Toulene, Xylenes, Ethyl Acetate.” Thank God I happened to read it after I bought it! Target SHOULD NOT be selling this! Returning it ASAP
