A Washington Post and Kirkus Reviews Best Book of the Year "Kept me frantically turning the pages and somehow made me cry at the end . . . Brava!"--Kristin Hannah, author of The Women "Melds tense suspense with a powerful exploration of devotion, obsession, and love."--People (Best New Books)
1975 is a time of change in America. The Vietnam War is ending. Muhammad Ali is fighting Joe Frazier. And in the smalltown of Monta Clare, Missouri, girls are disappearing. When the daughter of a wealthy family is targeted, the most unlikely hero emerges--Patch, a local boy, who saves the girl, and, in doing so, leaves heartache in his wake. Patch and those who love him soon discover that the line between triumph and tragedy has never been finer. And that their search for answers will lead them to truths that could mean losing one another. A missing person mystery, a serial killer thriller, a love story, a unique twist on each, Chris Whitaker has written a novel about what lurks in the shadows of obsession and the blinding light of hope.

An instant modern classic."--KMUW, NPR Kansas "All the Colors of the Dark will appeal to those who have loved To Kill a Mockingbird, The Catcher in the Rye, and F. This book is written with such descriptive and almost poetic language. It may not be the type of writing that everyone can get into but it is beautifully done. The story is filled with such sadness yet shows the unwavering love within friendships. Character development was done well and had a great ending. Would definitely recommend.

Guarantee this one will be at the top of many Best of 2024 lists! Definitely one of the most unique & breathtaking books. It’s a serial murder mystery, thriller, coming of age, historical fiction, & epic love story all rolled into one! It reminded me of a Kristin Hannah story & Shawshank Redemption- but at the same time just uniquely its own. Saint & Patch’s story still has me reeling in all my emotions! This is an epic tale of sacrifice, resilience, tragedy, & triumph spanning more than two decades. The author grabbed my attention from the start with a beginning filled with action & 👌🏼character development. The pace slowed about a third of the way through, but the short chapters & desperate need to know what was going to happen kept me turning the pages. The final third of the book moved at an alarming pace as the pieces began to fit together & you will NOT want to put it down. And the ending ... Let’s just say it left me breathless. This book is just stunning.
