Description
The Aries floor lamp provides efficient ambient lighting for an entire room in a slim design. Simplicity shines in this look with a brushed steel finish and a tapered frosted plastic shade. An Adesso patented 300 Watt Double Socket construction allows for two crisscrossed sockets, each holding on/off 150 Watt incandescent or LED bulbs which provides approximately 3 times more light than a typical torchiere. A simple high/low rotary switch is located on the pole to adjust the brightness. This lamp has a black cord and is smart outlet compatible. Bulbs are not included. The three-way switch adjusts the light from low setting, high setting to off position. Use incandescent bulbs up to 150W or dimmable led bulbs (DO NOT USE: 3-way bulbs or CFL's)

Q: Will the light damage the shade since it is plastic?

A: No, When using the correct light bulbs, the lamp shade will not affected by the light emitted from the bulbs.

Q: Can you replace the shade with a regular lampshade?

A: It would not be able to be replaced with a "regular" drum shade as they are threaded on differently, but you should be able to replace the shade depending if it is meant for a torchiere like this.

I agree with the post regarding the threads. While putting this lamp together pole c did not attach to B it wobbles. I don’t trust it not to topple over. It’s well made otherwise but I’m returning it due to the defect. I did reach out directly to the manufacturer but couldn’t reach anyone directly.

Poor Quality - fragile construction
First I bought two torchieres from my local Target store. These both had defective dimmer switches and I had to return them.
Then I paid a little extra to purchase these two Adesso lamps on-line. Because it does use dimmer switches, at least that part works right (although the switch feels loose and it may fail later). The real problem is the threads on the post. I am an engineer and based on other reviews I took extreme care in assembly. I back-threaded until I felt the threads slip into position and I stood on a step-ladder to ensure that I looked down the length of the tube to ensure alignment. Even so, I stripped one of the threads and I will have to epoxy that joint.
In brief, no one should be making such poor-quality threads. If you use and aluminum post then the manufacturer needs to beef-up the thickness and improve the threads.

Cheap plastic shade but the rest of the lamp feels heavy and substantial. Be patient and exacting getting the threads to line up when assembling.

Very Nice Quality
The lamp is great. Very sturdy. Not a cheap flimsy lamp. If you are looking to light up a room it takes two 150 watt bulbs. You can also set it on the lower setting for more subtle light. The only bad thing was that the one I received was definitely a return. The styrofoam packing material had meted to the entire cord. It took some hard work to clean. I am pretty sure that was a Target issue not the lamp company itself.
