The inspirational true story behind Netflix's "14 Peaks" documentary, this spellbinding memoir recounts Nepali mountaineer Nims Purja's death-defying quest to conquer Everest, K2, and twelve more 8,000-meter summits in record time. This riveting memoir tells the extraordinary tale of how the late Nims Purja summited all 8,000-meter "Death Zone" peaks in fewer than seven months--and reveals the extraordinary mindset that enabled him achieve his dreams. In 2019, Purja, a Nepali former soldier in the Gurkha and Special Boat Service units of the U.K Special Forces, set a world record, climbing all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter "Death Zone" peaks in six months and six days. In 2021, he achieved the first-ever winter ascent of Pakistan's K2, another mountaineering milestone. And in 2024, he summited the 8,000-meter peaks again--this time, without supplementary oxygen--and set another world record. In these spellbinding pages, Purja reveals the man behind the climbs, explaining how his early life in Nepal and training as an elite soldier allowed him to realize his ambitions. He explains why leadership, integrity, and collaboration drive the world's greatest climbing feats. And he shows how persistence, openness, and self-confidence provide what it takes to go miles beyond the possible.
