We had a good relationship for the first year, then it started eating batteries. I have a small yard but it takes 2 40 volt batteries to barely finish it. Light but a hassle. It died on the third year, would start then cut out after 5-10 minutes. Wouldn't you know my warranty expired one month after the 3 year warranty period.

Highly recommend NOT buying this mower. The idea of electric is nice but in reality we should have gone with gas. The only nice thing about it is that it is light weight otherwise the thing is junk. The batteries don't last with full charge. So disappointed in this. Wish I could return

Great for tall people. My husband is over 6’5, and regular mowers kill his back. He is completely sold on this model because it doesn’t hurt. Wish the battery life was better, but overall this was a definite win.

We purchased the CM2040 (this model's predecessor) in September 2016. It has never failed us. The height adjustment is easy, and the mower works very well, and its light weight is convenient. The battery life could be better, but on a normal suburban yard being mowed routinely, the two included batteries are more than adequate. We bought the string trimmer and leaf blower which use the same batteries, giving us charge for all the yard work with plenty to spare. Our old mower finally met and got stuck on a rock it could not kick out, and the motor died, so we are purchasing the newer version of the same model, and expect to get another 8 years or more out of it!

Cons: Battery system is NOT the same as the rest of the B&D 40v system for smaller tools. Not even the same charger. So don't think you're getting 2 extra batteries for tools when you buy this. Push handle is a little funky. Would be nice if it had more position adjustments. But design flaw doesn't allow for lower adjustments because it would hit the grass catcher bag. I've used this mower 3 times so far. The first time, I went through 3 battery chargings to get the lawn done. This was because the grass was thick and deep (first cut of the season) and I was using bag mode. Longest battery life is obtained in either mulch of side discharge modes. I use mulch mode now. Second time I used the mower, it took 2 battery charges. That was to do the whole yard (I don't usually do that). Third time I mowed the usual part of my yard (about 1/2 my property) with a fully charged battery and put the mower away with charge still left. I read reviews of this mower before buying it. Main complaints were battery life of it didn't even run the first time. Based on the fact that there were fewer complaints about battery life than not, I bought the mower. As to the mower not starting the first time, or sometime there after, my belief is the cause was because the battery was not totally seated in the lawn mowers receptacle. Happened to me at least once. Overall, the fact that the batteries are not compatible with other B&D 40v system tools is a big minus If you're realistic to the fact that this is not a gas powered mower and is not going to chomp down high wet grass like a gas powered mower can, it's adequate for getting the job done at a reasonable price.

I received a previously opened box with a bent front wheel attachment. Too much of a pain to go through the returns process. Next time I will purchase this type of item at a brick and mortar store where I can inspect the item before taking possession.

I bought this back in April of 2019. I bought 2 extra batteries for a total of 4 , to rotate. One battery will last at least 20-30 minutes give or take. I can’t believe that I have had it for this long. I have not had any major issues but the safety plug with lanyard holder is starting to come apart so I have to use electric tape to keep it from splitting. Hopefully i can order a replacement if the plug falls apart. Other than that it’s a great mower. Also one of my batteries finally does not charge, so that needs to be recycled, with another battery not to far behind from not being usable soon. Not bad for 5 Years. I need to order more batteries soon. I feel that I have gotten my moneys worth out of this mower. I know this mower definitely beats trying to troubleshoot/maintain a gas mower any day of the week. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this mower again if this mower decides to bite the dust. When it does hopefully the next battery mower B&D comes out with is more efficient , and double the run time to 50 - 60 minutes per battery would be AWESOME!

I’ve had good luck for two years; I’ve only had to sharpen the blade once and enjoyed quiet excellent grass cut ever since and I don’t miss oil or gas. Today for some reason I’m needing to troubleshoot the mower due to it not starting. The battery is charged and placed properly. Everything is hooked up properly. System is clean. Blade is free of debris. Press the button pull back the lever and nothing. Double check the process and check battery charge. All looks good. Try again. Hmmm… check Black & Decker troubleshooter; I’m doing everything correctly. Time to call.
15min charge until depletion

I just bought this mower that came with 2 40v batteries. Fully charged and I used each one for not even 10mins each and they depleted. I’m going to fully charge again and hopefully finish my lawn tomorrow. If the 15min depletion happens again I will have to take this further and probably have to return it. Disappointed

Not worth the money invested. Quality is questionnable and value is simply not there. You cannot compare it in any way to its gas operated competition 3 folds cheaper. The only positive thing is its ease of use. You absolutely cannot speak of effectivness if one of your battery pack is not holding its charge from day one and you don't have any answer after sending 3 messages in 2 languages.

This mower is a cool concept, and I love my other B&D battery operated products, but this mower is simply not up to par. This mower is perfect if your yard is 1,000 square feet or less, is perfectly flat, has no weeds, and the grass is kept short. If your yard does not meet every one of these specifications, you are going to regret this purchase. The battery life is extremely short and the mower is not powerful enough to cut grass over minor to moderate bumps and slopes in the yard. It will shut off constantly, especially if the grass is too thick. For this price point, you are better off buying a gas push mower and not dealing with recharging your batteries halfway through the job. The bagger also does not work properly. It will bag about half of what is cut.

The mower itself is a great piece of equipment. The quality of the mow is phenomenal. I cant get more than 20 minutes out of this thing before the battery is dead though. 100% the batteries are not good. Another reviewer said to mow at a higher setting and its no problem. If I wanted to mow my yard so it looks like it wasn't mowed I wouldn't mow at all. If you have a yard that can be done in 20 minutes with a gas mower this is 100% for you!

My Black and Decker cordless 40v mower is 8 years old and I still use the original batteries! It’s much lighter and easier to use than other cordless mowers … easy to fold … well designed and built … 8 years and no problems. I put in car to cut my rental property too … very light and cut height adjusts in a second …

I have to say, Black & Decker has been around a lot of years, even my grandfather bought it. The last product I got was the CM2043 Mower from a gas-to-electric trade in sponsored by the county. I have been very happy with the performance. The only downside is the batteries do not last. So I bought two more to add to my arsenal. Worked great until I hit a large rock and broke the drive shaft (I think)…so I bought the same model as not to waste all my batteries. Note: the box shows a standing charger which did not come with it.
