A: Yes, flaxseed (and chia seed) grinds fine and evenly in this blade grinder. 1/4 cup takes about 10 seconds. Flaxseed and chia have a lot of fat so some the ground seeds will cling to the inside of the grinder, which will have to be wiped out after each use. I've been grinding both seeds daily for over a year with no signs of blade damage.

Bad consistency grinder
This is a super disappointing coffee grinder for a name brand like Bodum. I had a generic/off-brand coffee grinder (similar size) that sadly broke (just the lid), and went with this Bodum because I thought it'd be good quality. Sadly not... the grind consistency is horrible. You'll end up grinding the beans for too long so most of it is too fine for (example) a french press, but then STILL end up with big chunks of bean that didn't get ground. It's so bad! If you don't mind inconsistent grind or just need something super basic, go for this. If not.....

It just works.
I have 2, one for coffee, one for spices. they work fast and thorough. I've had them for years. What I've noticed though, the exterior gets sticky for no reason. I haven't found anything that removes the stickiness. it's even on the space grinder that I don't use much.

This replaced a $14 black and decker grinder from 10 years ago and was twice the price. It throws the beans into the air instead of grinding them forcing you to shake the device to get it to grind the beans. Takes forever and the grinds get stuck in the seems of the lid when you try to put it back on making a terrible sound and getting grounds everywhere. This isn't worth the money.

The BISTRO is a blade grinder, meaning that it slices beans instead of crushing them like a burr grinder; the spinning blade is what tosses the beans in the way that you describe. Instead of shaking the BISTRO, which we do not recommend, try pulsing the power button on and off while grinding, which will help cycle the beans so they are ground more evenly. Pulsing will give you better results that holding down the power button for long stretches. As for the grounds getting under the lip of the lid, we suggest upturning the grinder over a trashcan and gently tapping on the side to clean the grounds out. Poorly Designed
I don't know where all these positive reviews are coming from. From a brand like bodum I expected better. Coffee comes flying out the bottom even when the grinder is placed flatly on a surface.

Not for serious coffee drinkers
Greatest flaw is its inconsistent grinding. Any grind before fine granules is impossible to make. Almost always, the grinds have all kinds of granules- from very fine to half a bean. If you understand the importance of grind size and texture, do not get this. Even manual grinding is better.

Very uneven grind
This is the worst grinder I have ever owned. Grounds fly out the edge as it doesnt seal, very uneven grind even after stopping to shake it between pulses. Like lentil sized chunks. Waste of money.

Is this a 5 Star grinder? Of course not is a it a 5 Star grinder for $20 bucks? Absolutely! Do you want perfect results every time with zero effort? There are $300 and up grinders with your name on them. You grind for 5 seconds, shake the grinder and repeat until your desired grind. Is it perfect no, is it better than pre ground? By a mile. It worked for only a few times
It was great at the beginning, it really grind the coffee beans finely but after a few uses my beans are left coarse. Is not grinding anymore like it used to. Is not worth the money for espresso.

Doesnt fine grind
You can only grind a small amount at a time. And then usually, I have to grind it 3 or 4x over because it leaves behind big chunks of coffee bean. I would not recommend.

Appearently, the on/off function is just for show because after FOUR uses the only way to turn it off is to unplug it. This model from BODUM is a real dud. Don't buy.
