Q: Has anyone used this grinder past the manufacturer's 18 month warranty period?

submitted by Daya - 2 years ago
  • A: Yes. Will require cleaning. The hopper rotates off. Good to brush clean and force air (blow vigorously) through the passages to remove fine particles which seem to clog the switch mechanism.

    submitted byMNJoel13 - 1 year ago
  • A: Yes, I've had it and use it a lot every day, past the 18 month mark and still works great. Have to clean it so it doesn't get clogged. Still works great,

  • A: The grind is fairly inconsistent and you will get a lot of fines.

  • A: All of the settings on this grinder make "Fine" grounds. The coarse setting makes medium find grounds. If you want coarse grinds -- look elsewhere. I am very disappointed in this machine.

Q: Does anyone know if this grinder grind coffee beans beyond the espresso size to the dust powder extra fine size needed to prepare like Turkish coffee or so?

submitted by Ptl - 8 years ago
  • A: Yes, there is an extra fine setting for Turkish coffee.

submitted byRadiofan - 6 years ago
  • A: It does several different textures.

    submitted byGinaB2323 - 7 years ago

Q: Can you grind spices in this?

submitted by JA - 8 years ago
  • A: Yes, I suppose you could. It would be a little over powered for just regular kitchen use and much more work to clean out between spices. I use a small inexpensive grinder for spices, they usually are around $10.

submitted byclf - 8 years ago
  • A: You could, but it wouldn't be easy to clean a specific spice out of it. I wouldn't use it for that purpose.

submitted byTCook - 8 years ago

Q: Just bought grinder. It grinds coffee really slow. Is this normal?

submitted by Sandcrab3 - 8 years ago
  • A: You don't really want a grinder that is too fast. It builds up heat due to the speed and that can effect your beans.

submitted byclf - 8 years ago
  • A: The setting in front is for the approximate number of cups of brewed coffee in ground coffee needed. The top setting is for how fine a grind you want. The finer the grind the slower it will grind because it brings the blades closer together. A more uniform grind speed can be achieved by keeping the bean hopper full so it always puts downward pressure on the beans to enter the grinding chamber. All that being said it should grind the beans at the same rate as any other comparable grinder. I've had mine for over a year and find it to be the best grinder for under $100. Hope that helps!

Q: I just bought this grinder. There is a mark on the dial that selects Fine/Medium/Course. Is it supposed to be screwed all the way in so mark is about 9 o'clock or is it supposed to face you.

submitted by Sandcrab3 - 8 years ago
  • A: True the white line is your guide to the type of grind you want. Align with the dots on your grinder. Good luck.

submitted byNailima - 8 years ago
  • A: The white line indicates the desired grind. it varies from fine to coarse. just twist to the the dotted marks depending on how you want it ground. most coffee makers you would use the medium setting and fine form more espresso applications.

    No longer durable

My previous unit was exactly the same model and it lasted me a decade of daily use, loved everything about it. After it finally bit the dust, I bough an exact replacement, and it died after less than a year. The grinder is no longer made to be durable, so it is not a good value for the price anymore.

    Automatic Burr Mill

The Burr Mill works great. If you need to grind a lot of coffee the machine will automatically stop once the machine gets too hot and then you have to unplug and let cool down. I would definitely recommend this machine to family and friends.

    Easy to use coffee grinder

Easy to use. One concern, the medium setting grinds the beans very fine, like powder. Also, operation is mostly intuitive, except, note that the off/number of cups, slider switch is the off button if you want to stop it before the automatic shut off. Also, there is a start button, separate from the off slider switch. Without reading the instructions, I thought the grinder was broken, because I kept using the off slider switch, thinking it was also the start/on switch. Instead, you just dump the beans in the hopper, select dial in the grind fineness, then select the number of cups to grind, then tap the Start button; the grinder automatically shuts off after the number of cups is reached. After the first use, all you need to do is keep the hopper filled and tap the start button. The ground coffee storage unit is a bit awkward, but not a deal breaker. After grinding shuts off, easily pull out the clear plastic hopper, remove the lid, and spoon out what you need into your coffee maker. Don't forget to put the lid back on before re-inserting the plastic storage hopper.

Gets the job done in no time

This is my first automatic grinder, and I love it. I'm only giving it 4 instead of 5 stars because it makes more noise than I thought it would and my dogs hate that, but honestly it's really good. I tried different setups (which are stupid easy to learn), and every time I got both the amount of coffee I expected, and the proper grind. I also tried grinding some coffee the night before using it, to see if some flavor and aroma would be lost and it wasn't. Pretty solid and good price! Just wished it was a bit quieter.

    Outstanding says it all!

My old one finally gave up the fight. The old one was OLD and lasted well. I thought well I will research and see what is the best out now. (Reason I brought the old one) My search produced more reviews that if it didn’t list this one at #1, it was in the top 3. So I brought one just like it! Quality lasts!

    Average grinder

We had this same one a few years ago and it finally quit on us. This one doesn’t seem to grind as well. It slows up and sometimes you don’t get a complete grind. Even after cleaning it frequently does this. Perhaps a bad unit?

Poor features that don’t promote easy use.

Really disappointed w the DBM-8P1 model coffee grinder. Just purchased and arrived this past week. Waited til weekend to use. There are several issues. The first, the power cord. It has to be adjusted after picking up the unit every single time. Otherwise the grinder will rock. First of several design features. Next, the design of the grinder area. Beans become stuck every single time. Everything goes straight down, but there’s a cover with a slim opening encircling the chamber. Can’t grinder again until the grinding chamber is emptied. This requires more than the enclosed brush. I had to get a pie prick (metal, thickness of a tooth pick) to move the jammed beans. The final issue, after the first grind when I went to do another the grounds were shooting out of the holding chamber. Turns out there’s a slight opening between the grinder unit and the catch bin across the top. The bin itself doesn’t latch in, and can’t be secured. This is being returned. I love the Cuisinart food processors of all sizes. They are the only ones I purchase. Very disappointed. Tried to upload photos.

We appreciate your detailed feedback, and we’re sorry to hear the grinder didn’t meet the performance you expect from Cuisinart. Clearing the bean hopper and ensuring the grind chamber and catch bin are fully seated can help prevent jams and escaping grounds, but we understand your concerns with the design. Please contact our Consumer Assistance Center at 1-800-726-0190 with ticket #8900430252 so we can assist further.

Loud, doesn’t feed well, awkward cup

This device grinds well. That is the last of the positives. Cons are that it is incredibly loud, doesn’t feed beans well so it constantly gets louder and stops grinding, and the dump cup is awkwardly large, static, and rectangle which makes it very hard to dump into a coffee maker without getting grounds all over. Would not recommend this product as is.

Disappointed with replacement of older product

I bought this almost two months ago to replace the same item that wore out after many years of happy use. This new one does not grind enough coffee no matter how many cups you select. When grinding, dust from coffee beans flies out of the machine. I’m not sure what happened to this model but we got it before because it was highly rated and recommended. I wish I had read reviews this time around to know the quality was not the same.

We’re very sorry to hear about the repeated issues you’ve experienced with your Cuisinart® Grinder. Please ensure the hopper is filled properly, the lid is securely in place, and the grinding chamber is clean, as misalignment or debris can affect operation. Please read before buying

I bought this model 16 years ago. It was great. It finally died. A screw had loosened up and was grounded to dust. I bought another and it would grind for about a half second and would not allow any beans in. I started at very course and and same thing. Took it back and got a replacement. This one grinds for about a second or two then stops, Only producing least than an 1/8 of a teaspoon. Not trying a third time. DO NOT BUY

Nice grinder, easy clean, simple use

I borrowed a friend’s Cuisinart burr grinder a few years ago to grind espresso and really enjoyed it. I was in need of a new coffee grinder and was excited to find this grinder was affordable. I love the ease of switching the grind from coarse to fine. My only issue is the grinder is loud, but my other small grinders were too! Cleaning the machine is easy and I am enjoying the volume of beans I can grind as well as being able to walk away from the grinder as it works.

This one a dud -- bummer.

I've owned several, but this one doesn't measure up. The motor spins and tries to grind, but the beans don't get to it. The empty, piercing whine is painful. I'm pushing beans into the grind area by hand. Too much of a hassle to return...

We’re sorry to hear that your Cuisinart® Coffee Grinder isn’t performing as expected. Please ensure the bean hopper isn’t overfilled and that it is twisted down onto the unit, to ensure beans fall properly into the grinder. It may also help to clean the chute and grinding chamber to remove any oils or grounds that could be blocking the flow of beans. If the issue continues, our Consumer Service Team will be happy to assist at 1-800-726-0190.
