Q: C&H dark brown sugar: is it real or just white sugar with molasses stirred in?
A: It's real. The instructions on the bag when I first bought it, said to rub the sugar in the palm of your hand. If it stays brown and doesn't turn white, that's how you know. The smell and flavor of C&H brown sugar is delightful.
submitted byJuleG - 8 years agoA: They seem to have changed it. I've been CH since 1969 and this is not the same anymore. It doesn't have the same moisture, therefore it could mess up some recipes from (whenever they changed it) to today. I had to throw mine out and start over, adjusting ingredients to make it work. I called the company but didn't really get answers- she just wanted to send me a coupon- which is nice but doesn't answer the questions. There isn't anything wrong with molasses added to browned sugar, it's part of what gives it that flavor we are used to in certain recipes. Now I have to switch Domino dark brown. I like CH quality best, but what choice do I have? Can't keep throwing out messed up recipes. :(
