Not being one to want to spend more than necessary, I figured I’d give the 480i a shot on my motorcycle. It replaces my Uniden R3, which is now in the car. That unit did not have Bluetooth and couldn’t communicate with my helmet-based Sena SMH10r headset without adding the Sena SR10 to enable a second feed in addition to my phone, which I use to play tunes from my iTunes collection. That set up works well, but the SR10 alone cost more than the Cobra 480i and it required me to carry an extra device to get the alerts to play in my helmet. Now, with the Cobra, I only need carry it. My iPhone connects to the 480i and my Sena SMH10R headset and the phone handles everything seamlessly, including playing the alerts in a gentle female voice at a tolerable volume. Beats the heck out of the screechingly loud alerts I’d get from the second channel coming over the SR10, which always caused me to reach quickly for the volume control to avoid hearing damage. All in all very worth the $129 I paid for it on Cobra’s website with the coupon code they gave me there. Free shipping too if you sign up for their email distribution list. Go ahead and go for it. It’ll pay for itself quickly.

I bought in Jan 2024 and it quit working within 8 months. Contacted customer support and was asked to send proof of purchase and i did. I get a reply saying proof of purchase not detecting. Now i have to buy a new one and it will not be cobra!!
