Q: I used color oops Mon,& it did not take all the processed color out. It left it an odd orange reddish color. Im trying to go from red to my natural blonde color. How soon can I use color oops again?

submitted by Karen - 8 years ago
  • A: Color Oops can be used twice in a day but we suggest to wait an additional day. When coloring hair, a mixture of artificial hair color and hydrogen peroxide (oxide/developer) are used to deposit color into the hair. At the same time it is depositing color, the hydrogen peroxide (oxide/developer) can lighten the natural pigment your hair. Therefore, even though you may be coloring darker, your natural pigment may be altered. When color Oops is applied and the artificial color is removed, what is left of your natural color will be exposed. If your natural color was altered, you will see a brassy, red or warm color. In this case, you can re-color to your desired color.

  • A: Hi there!!! So this particular product is for lifting color not removing it. For example: my hair is blue right now, if I use this- it will bring my deep blue to a light blue because that is the base of my hair color right now. Just like the red goes orange- because it's the base color for your red hair. As far as when to use it again, I use it same day if needed.

Q: I have henna and indigo on my curly hair. Will it remove or at least fade the indigo without damage?

submitted by SunshineLee - 25 days ago
  • A: If there is henna in your hair, you can't use Color Oops. Color Oops is not formulated to remove henna. Henna is a metallic and applying Color Oops over it can cause some damage or even hair breakage.

submitted by Morgan - 2 months ago
  • A: If you are planning to go lighter from this point on you will need to use a lightener. Color Oops will not help your hair get lighter.

I bought it for my red hair after watching sooooo many videos which honestly now seem to be paid I used it my hair turned orange. I had to get it shipped to my country because it honestly looked promising Before red my hair was light/ blond dyed Anyways after 2 uses I went to the salon and they bleached my hair and the hair was still red underneath and it took sooooo much effort and time to take it out with bleach so why pay so much for a useless product that literally does nothing except for smelly hair. My hair had to be bleached again and again to finally get to clean slate they could use another dye on

Do not recommend ! This stuff smells terrible after using! Especially if you have breathing problems or health issues . I can’t get the smell out of my hair even after shampooing and following the directions! Go to your nearest Sally’s instead and buy the little packets of color remover that don’t smell horrific ! I still have color in my hair too.

This is great for removing permanent hair dye. It smells horrible, but it gets the job done with less damage than using a hair lightener (bleach). If you have long or thick hair, you may want to get two bottles. Make sure to have reasonable expectations. This product is unlikely to restore your hair to its original color. You'll likely need to follow up with color correction. The great thing about this product is that you can apply a toner or dye immediately after using it. I've accidentally gone too dark, and this could only lift so much of the black dye out of my over-processed hair. I waited a couple days, using deep conditioning masks, then gave my hair a gentle bleach wash to remove the remaining pigment to achieve the base color I needed. I don't think I could've safely achieved the desired results without first using this color remover. Also, if you dye your hair often, it's nice to use this every once in a while to kind of get a "clean pallet" of hair to work with. That way your hair color comes out more predictable and even.

Used this product twice now, and here’s the scoop: The first time, I was disappointed—it barely removed any of the red from my hair. But full honesty: I only rinsed for 6 minutes and shampooed once (oops). Round two, I followed the instructions properly—rinsed for a full 40 minutes (I have super thick hair), and made sure to separate and spread my hair out so the water could really reach every strand. The results? AMAZING. It basically removed all the color. Next time, I’d probably use two boxes instead of one to get even better coverage. Heads up: it does smell a bit funky, and that scent sticks around for a couple of days—kind of like permanent dye—but it fades. Overall, great product if you take the time to do it right!

What they should’ve said was “your hair will be the color of the models on the box!” My natural hair color is most definitely NOT strawberry blonde. Have a look at the pics! 🤣 I’m not mad about this color that my hair turned, because I try to live happy and I understand that these things happen, but I just wanted to make others aware, in case someone out there doesn’t want this result for themselves. (Full disclosure, I did tear up upon initial sighting, but I shook it off pretty quickly.)

I used this to take a dark red color out and it took most of it out, but the smell is terrible!!!! It left my whole house and bathroom smelling terrible and my hair😐. You really have to use it more than once to really get the color out even though on the box it states one will take all the color out which is for from the truth. You have a better chance of just coloring your hair it’s natural color.

I just bought this today, used it on my black hair dye, and it removed absolutely nothing, not even the root touch up I did a few months ago that was only one layer of dye, idk if it’s the one I bought, my hair specifically, or just the fact that this product is terrible. I have seen other people where it pulls years of color off but it did nothing for me, so I guess if you want real results, use bleach!

There could be so many reasons why Color Oops didn't work for you. Color Oops will only remove oxidative dye meaning color that was mixed with a developer. This is the first time I have ever used any color remover at all. And I'm pleasantly surprised. This absolutely works and I didnt expect it to work this well. Of course it smells bad, but it is so worth it. I had a permenant super dark burgundy red box dye that has been dyed over multiple times, one application of this and my hair is now a golden strawberry blonde. Some slight red undertones but my hair naturally has some red in it anyways. Follow the instructions to a T!!! It says to rinse for 20 minutes, I'm not sure if these bad reviews aren't following the instructions or not but this 100% works and my hair feels perfectly fine. It felt dry and after a deep conditioner it feels just the same as it did. Bleach could never do this. Everything would be splotchy and different colors and you would have to bleach multiple times and tons of damage to your hair. The one application of this color oops and my hair is blonde and EVEN IN COLOR! I'm so glad I chose this route instead of spending a ton of money at a salon. 100% would use this again!

Took out multiple year old RED permanent hair dye. Work wonderful! No red left at all! And I think they changed the formula because when I used this 15 years ago it made me gag. This product now was almost pleasant smelling. Even my brother said that it didn’t stink like I had warned him it would. Also, target’s price is great compared to the drug stores.

This actually worked so well!!?? Like I am shocked. I followed the instructions to a T! And when I went to rinse it out I set my timer for 15min and washed with a sulfate free shampoo 3x and also let my hair run under the water. Per instructions. Surprisingly my hair felt sooo good after I put conditioner in it. And soft which for a treatment like this you wouldn’t expect. The Demi permanent color that I had in my hair was completely removed. I have long dense hair and strands so I used 2 full boxes. One box for each side of my hair. But if your hair is not as course or dense you can definitely use one and save your coin! Overall I know what I’m using if I ever have unwanted semi/demi permanent color that I’d want to remove. For the smell I recommend using a conditioner after the shampooing process and leaving it in for a bit the smell goes away by then imo. And if not then, it will probs go away by the time you style and use fragranced hair products!

Got rid of all the burgundy in my hair but I had 2 pink sections in the front and it turned them blue ? After I used it I read the box and it specifically says it will not remove pinks & purples. So use this as your cautionary tale. Fortunately it doesn’t look horrible and I’m going to my hairdresser soon. But! My hair feels fine and none of it fell out

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate our customer's input. Color Oops reverses the oxidation process of hair color pigment. When hair color is applied, small clear dye intermediates are deposited into the hair. During the color process hydrogen peroxide (oxide/developer) oxidizes the dye intermediates into large colorful pigments that are too big to be washed from the hair. Color oops reverses that process. When applied, Color Oops shrinks the color pigment back to small clear dye intermediates. These intermediates are still in the hair. The rinsing and shampooing process is essential in assuring these intermediates are thoroughly washed from hair. If any of the dye intermediates are left in the hair they can re-oxidize over time and your hair can re-darken.

I bought this product this morning and had an amazing experience. I purchased(what I thought was a trusted name brand hair dye) from a well known smiley company. Didn't pay attention that the box was different than previously purchased. Color on boxed stated same as previously purchased, applied it to my hair and it was a disaster. Went to a local chain and purchased Oops, the results are amazing. I back to my natural blonde self.
