About this item

Book Synopsis

Cook Once, Eat All Week is a revolutionary way to get a delicious, healthy, and affordable dinner on the table FAST. Author Cassy Joy Garcia will walk you through this tried-and-true method and show you how batch-cooking a few basic components can give you an entire week's worth of dinners with minimal time and effort.

Have you ever tried a meal prep plan before and gotten so excited about having your cooking for the week done ahead of time, only to find yourself totally exhausted after a full day in the kitchen, shocked by your grocery bill, and tired of the same leftovers by Tuesday? Cassy Joy Garcia had been there, too. As a mom, business owner, and Nutrition Consultant, she needed to get a healthy, affordable, and tasty dinner on the table fast every night, and she knew there had to be a better way to do it. She finally cracked the code when she discovered that by batch-cooking a protein, starch, and vegetable each week she could easily assemble three fresh, diverse meals in minimal time. After years of her readers asking her for better meal prep strategies and easy recipes, she released 4 weeks of recipes on her blog, Fed and Fit. Since then, tens of thousands of people have made and raved about the series and begged for more!

In this book, you'll find 26 weeks of affordable, healthy, delicious meals that your family will love eating, and a chapter full of bonus 20-minute meals. Optional Instant Pot and slow cooker instructions are included to get you even more time back in your week. With a Real Food foundation, the weeks in this book aim to support dietary approaches that cover gluten-free, dairy-free, Paleo, low-carb, egg-free, kid-friendly, and more. Three simple ingredients like shredded pork, potatoes, and cabbage are turned into these three easy-to-assemble meals: Honey Mustard Pork Sheet Pan Dinner, Enchiladas Verde Casserole, and Sloppy Joe Stuffed Potatoes.

This book is a must-have for anyone looking for a REAL solution to help them eat healthfully while also saving time and money and loving what they are eating.

A lot of the recipes were good but I found this book not to work for me and my scattered mind. Items in the weekly list were sometimes mentioned but never needed or needed but never listed so I found myself going to the grocery store multiple times. I would spend one day deciding on what to cook/gathering ingredients, the next day grocery shopping, and then a third day cooking and preparing all day. It gave me more anxiety than freedom. The title was always an extra dig on particularly hard days; Cook Once Eat All Week. More like cook on Sunday and every other day you plan to eat. Some recipes had leftovers for days while others was barely enough to split between three people. Once again most of the food was good, I just need less drama in my life.

I love the approach to meal prepping that this book takes. It makes sense and it’s super easy to follow. Some of the recipes are a bit underwhelming, but they’re all generally healthy and it doesn’t take much to make them better. Overall the recipes are pretty good though. I wish that after each recipe she talked about the best way to store that particular dish. It would also be great if she included a breakfast meal prep section. Otherwise, this is a great cookbook.

Didn't Work Out

Glad this book worked out for so many but it did not for me. Food was not that great and I realized batch cooking is exhausting (spent one hour and 47 minutes to prep three meals but for some reason it was very tiring). It was also overwhelming with all of the sheet pans, pots, and bowls out. Just my personal experience; perhaps with more use I could cut down on my prep time to one hour like another reviewer had shared. For now, if anyone were to say the words, “batch cooking,” to me, it’s going to bring flashbacks of how tired I felt and I’m going to run far away…

Casey has really made meal prep convenient with her book COOK ONCE EAT ALL WEEK. The meals are delicious and now there is no excuse not to eat healthy, they are so easily customizable to meet whatever “diet” suits you and your family best - she even tells you how. I have meal prepped for several years and with this method the meal prep time is shortened by using bulk ingredients. You can store ingredients to assemble for “fresh” meals throughout the week or make them all ahead of time, which is what I prefer.l because I’m too busy with my 6 month old and working full time. The weeks worth of meals takes me an hour or so including cooking/baking time, which I’m sure will decrease as I get more efficient with the process. (Even 2 hours for a whole weeks worth of meals is AMAZING! It used to take me at least 4 hours!) I have used the book for two weeks over now and my $250/week grocery bill was $130 which says a lot for living in Hawaii. I love the variety she has provided as there are half a years worth of recipes! She makes it easy to glance at the table of contents and find a week that already fits what what you have stocked in your pantry or freezer.
