Q: Can I brown food on stove and then slow cook In slow cooker?

submitted by AC - 5 years ago
  • A: Best to use stove pan for searing BC you need to sear most meat to lock in flavor & juices. So, the ceramic insert is for "slow" cooking. Tip: They make slow cooking inserts to save cleaning!

    submitted by30YrCX - 7 months ago
  • A: I don't think so. Suggest using a skillet

    submitted byBeenthere216 - 2 years ago
  • A: Yes. The best way to prep beef for stew.

submitted byEubbie - 7 months ago
  • A: Yes. This is recommended for most beef. It makes it taste sooooo much better.

submitted byUnmei - 5 months ago
  • A: Definitely! Will keep warm until ready to eat!

submitted bySarah - 9 days ago
  • A: Hi AC! We hope you are healthy and staying safe. Yes, we actually recommend that you brown the food on the stove first before slow-cooking.

Q: is this item round or oval

submitted by carole - 2 years ago
  • A: Not automatic. Must switch manually.

submitted byDeb - 3 months ago
  • A: The width and depth specifications for this crock-pot are different -- so, it is an oval. (Not sure why they answered you that it is round!)

submitted byBecca - 2 years ago
  • A: Does this crockpot switch from low/high to warm after a certain amount of time? Or does it have to be manually switched?

submitted byAshley - 1 year ago
  • A: This is a round crock pot the width and depth are different because the WIDTH INCLUDES THE HANDLES... luv this lil crockpot.

Q: Can I use the pot to cook on the stove top before slow cooking?

submitted by Olivia C - 1 year ago
  • A: No. You will need to brown in a skillet before putting it into the liner pot.

submitted byivorykeys - 1 year ago
  • A: No. Neither the pot nor inner liner are stove top safe.

submitted byAmy - 1 year ago
  • A: No, you can not use it on the stove top.

submitted byRadiva - 9 months ago
  • A: Hello! Thanks for your question! The stoneware pot in most Crockpot slow cookers is designed specifically for slow cooking and isn't safe for stovetop use. Exposing it to direct heat on the stove can cause it to crack. For further assistance, please contact us through email, phone or the contact form available on our website. Q: How does ceramic wash as opposed to stoneware

submitted by Aa - 1 year ago
  • A: Great. If you have to soak it first just make sure you don't use Hot water if the ceramic pot cooled down too much. Just use room temp water.

submitted byivorykeys - 1 year ago
  • A: I am not sure about stoneware but I have always found the crock pot liners easy to clean.

submitted byAmy - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello. Thank you for reaching out to us. Please be informed that all our stoneware products are coated with a ceramic glaze made from a silicate blend of quartz, feldspar, and clay. The glaze is covered over the pot, fired at high temperature to melt the glaze and then cooled down. The glaze liquid is then turned into coating the same as glass film on the surface of the pot which makes cleaning easy, and ensures a smooth, polished surface for long-lasting use. We hope this information proves helpful. If you have any further questions, you can reach out to us directly via our official CrockPot website's "Contact us" page or through LiveChat. We’re available Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern Time. We will be glad to help you. Thank you! CrockPot Consumer Care.

Q: I have a 6 quart crock pot and whether I choose low or high, the food is always overcooked. I cook for myself so maybe I'm not putting enough food in? What size would you recommend for one person that would generate 4-5 portions?

submitted by Elle - 5 years ago
  • A: Crock-Pot has dramatically increased the temperature of the heating element from what it was years ago, presumably due to worries about food-borne illness. It is very difficult to cook properly with modern slow cookers. I would recommend you scour garage sales for older models, which cook much more reliably.

    submitted byDyann B - 5 years ago
  • A: Thank you so much for your question. We’re sorry to hear about what happened to your food. To avoid over- or under-cooking, always fill the stoneware ½ to ¾ full to conform to recommended cook times with the exception of certain cakes and custards, and as guided in our slow cooker recipes. For further assistance, please contact us at 1-800-323-9519. Our Consumer Care Team is open from 9 am to 5 pm EST Monday to Friday. Q: Yes I would like to know what is the temp u use to cook beans low or put on hinlost my book

submitted by Denise - 6 years ago

I LOVE crock pots and own 3 of them that I've had for over 10 years, the oldest being 20 years old. I use my crock pots to cook almost everything, to the point my family jokes that I'm the crockpot master. They all work wonderfully and I use them A LOT, all year long. I bought a new crock pot because I'm away from home helping to care for a sick family member and don't have my old trusty crock pots with me. I purchased this one in green and was so excited to use it. The day after I bought it I tried making chicken soup. All of my crock pots typically cook a pot of soup on high in 3-4 hrs. This one didn't even get warm after 4 hrs. My favorite part of the crock pot is set it and forget it for the time it takes to cook. Imagine my surprise when I went to try the soup after 4 hrs and it wasn't even warm, more like slightly warmer than room temperature, and all the ingredients were still raw. I then had to pour the soup into a pot and cook it on the stove. When I was washing the crockpot so I can return it, the water I was using got hotter than the crockpot on high after 4 hrs. Such a disappointment!

This is an amazing slow cooker. Ideal size for storing and easy to set up. It's been ideal that I can put some food on before I go to work and have it ready for when I get back. Easy to clean. It looks nice too, fits in with a modern kitchen. It's great value for money. What I have started doing to make the cleaning up even easier, is using the disposable clear liner bags from home bargains. Once you've got your food out, no washing up to do apart from your dishes!

1 reply from CrockPot Support Team team - 19 days ago
Hello! Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your Crock-Pot 4.5qt Slow Cooker is taking longer than expected to heat. Slow cookers are designed to gradually build heat to ensure even cooking, but if it feels unusually slow, it may help to: Tips: 1. Always start with room-temperature or slightly warm ingredients. 2. Avoid overfilling, as this can extend heating time. 3. Try preheating the Crock-Pot on the “High” setting for 20–30 minutes before adding food. If the issue persists, we recommend reaching out to our customer care team for troubleshooting or warranty support. For further questions or inquiries, you may also visit our contact us web form. On the Coleman website, select "contact us" from the drop-down menu after clicking the question mark logo in the top right corner, which will direct you to our contact web form. Have a nice day! I thought I’d get lucky. Because at this price point, why wouldn’t you give it a shot? Well, it turned out to be a complete waste of time! My unit didn’t power on at all. There’s no indicator light, so you couldn’t tell if it was on, but it produced no heat. I had it on high for an hour and the base plate was still cool to the touch. On top of that, when I turned it down to low, the knob fell off!!! I’m so disappointed in this product. But I should’ve heeded caution to the plethora of negative reviews on this already. Don’t be like me - pass this one up.

I’ve been using this 4.5 qt Crock-Pot for a few weeks and it’s the perfect size for small families or meal prep for two people. It heats evenly, cooks stews and chili beautifully, and keeps food warm without burning. Cleanup is easy since the insert is removable and dishwasher safe. The size is great—not too bulky but big enough for a whole chicken or a batch of soup. Definitely recommend if you want something reliable and simple to use.”
